What to use instead of jars?
    #2392124 - 03/01/04 06:00 PM (20 years, 1 month ago)

I was wondering what I could use instead of jars for the colonization. I was thinking about using gladware or some plastic container like that, but I dont know if plastic would affect anything or if you have to use glass?

What's wrong with glass?

plastic leeches chemicals when heated, or they just melt during sterilization. You could try autoclaving bags, but then you'd have to transfer the substrate....y bother?

nothing is wrong with glass... not all plastics do, some are quite stable and I've never had to transfer substrate from a mycobag....

I recomend anything made from Polymethylpentine (PMP / polycarbonate) or High Density Polypropylene... the gladware should work if it's suffi ciently thick

I have used 1.5 pint plastic rubbermaid containers and they worked well, I PC'ed them and they held up.

Gladware will work fine. It stands up to PCing quite well.

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.
