Grains beginning to stick

Okay so I didn't use gypsum but otherwise my grains have been great, very free flowing and not sticky at all, but now that mycelium is forming, the grains are beginning to get clumpy and stick to the sides and in a larger mass that requires me banging the jars on wood to completely break it up. I am using hand-cut tyvek on the outward facing side of the grain jar as my filter, and am curious if it is okay if I shake my grains so that they touch the lid of the jar? or should i be gentle so I don't accidentally touch the filter?
First time with grains. Thanks for your input.

Sounds like you have a bacterial infection. I dont have to bang my spawn on anything to break it up, I just shake it hard and it easily breaks up. Thats how your spawn should be.

should i upload photos? The mycelium is colonizing nicely otherwise, but how should I allow this to grow or kill it all?

If its really bad you might only grow trich before the first flush. Bactria weaken the spawn quite a bit.
Pics wouldnt hurt

Gypsum makes them abit less "starchy" or "sticky"?
I'm asking not telling. I've never used gypsum but seems like something every good cultivator

Absolutely

This is the "worst" one, All of them have a little of this or more but this is the one with the most gunk on the glass

Id say your first problem is all the burst grains, looks like your spawn is a bit starchy. The colonized portion looks bacterial too, see how parts of the grains look uncolonized and pressed up against the glass, with sort of a wet look?
I'd keep them for now but honestly I can forsee slow growth and maybe the possibility of your jars stalling. Keep an eye on them but in the meantime consider starting a new batch with a better grain prep this time. Also, if you just shoot the spires directly to grains use the smallest amount (1 or two cc's) you can to inoculate.

Thanks for the info man. I didn't think the burst grains would be too much of a problem, but after this I will be moving on to WBS instead of Rye berries. I used 2 CC's of homemade MS solution per grain jar. I am going to hope for the best and if all does not fare well, I have agar materials coming in tomorrow so I can do this the right way.
I see you have been working with agar for a hot minute already, may I ask how long I should expect to inoculate my first jar with an agar wedge after putting a drop onto my first agar plate?

I vastly prefer rye over wbs and ime wbs bursts easier than rye. It just takes practice to get it right.
Spores germinate on agar for me within five days, let it grow for about 5 days and transfer to a nee dish. Repeat. If you use 1 plate to grain it will take about three weeks to fully colonize. Ive been using myc water (li) instead and it knocks a week off.

Sometimes starchy grains stick together just break em up with a few bangs or leave em to birth like a BRF cake.

I have heard WBS is better because it has more innoc points?
Also the materials for LC is on the way as well, I haven't begun looking up a tek for it yet but I know it is supposed to be pretty great and requires agar work first though.

i like wbs because you can do a 24hour soak and no simmer/boil. impossible to fuck up water content doing it that way.

I did not know that was a viable option. Thank you for this

make sure to load jars with slightly damp seeds. still strain/drain it but not like you would with other grains. once you load you may even think 'damn these seem kinda wet' dont worry. the grains soak up the extra moisture during the pc cycle/cool down.
i fucking hate simmering grains. i hate cooking rice and pasta. so im not going to do it in my free time/with my hobby.
