I went out to scout around my area and to see if any patches sprouted up after the last rain. Unfortunately, I didn't have anything to store them in so I only took pictures.
I believe that some of these sets of samples are the same species, but I separated them out by location. I'm guessing that most of these are inactive, but I /think/ that I may have come across some psilocybe cyanescens.
I was also wondering how much variance there is in the phenotype of psilocybe species. Are all the characteristics fairly uniform, or is there a degree of variance in color, shaping, etc?
1. Damp wood chips under a redwood tree near a stream.

2. Damp wood chips under a redwood tree near a stream.

3. Near the location of 1&2, but further away from the stream. There was no tree covering and the woodchips were less damp.

4. Same location as 3.

5. Muddy ground near wood chips> This was at a higher elevation that 1-4, up in the East Bay Hills.

6. Near 5., right under a tree.

7. Adjacent to 6, but not directly under the tree. The ground was more damp.

8. Near 7.

9. Slightly further out from 6-8. In damp wood chips. They look like they might be psilocybe cyanescens?

10. Muddy ground near woodchips.

1. Might be Gymnopus 2. Might be Collybia 3. Might be Leratiomyces ceres4 4. Not sure, maybe Agaricus 5. Might be Tubaria 6. Might be Paxillus 7. Might be Mycena haematopus 8. Might be Conocybe or Galerina 9. Might be Clitocybe 10 May also be Tubaria
Nothing you'd want to eat. A spore print and more detailed variety of photos per mushroom along with a description would be helpful. Your photos are nice.

Thank you for IDing my finds again! I plan to get up early tomorrow to go look around a few areas that seem active.
I'm curious to find out if there will be a difference in the variety of fungi that I find roughly 20 hours after rain (this batch) versus 40 hours after rain. I know that asking specifics about the growing conditions of a certain species isn't allowed, but is it okay to ask if there is a general succession pattern for fruiting?
In terms of a variety of photos, will getting photos of the gills and cap be sufficient? I'll bring a container so that I can bring a few samples back to make some sporeprints.

Yes gill, stem and cap should be helpful for identifying.
