Out of jail after a two month sentence

It was nothing like what I expected. Worked out all day, ate as much as I could stomach, played cards, board games and watched cable tv. Almost everyone was friendly. People greeted me with commissary, hygiene products, and junk food upon arrival. One guy even put money on my books for commissary.
Was picked up by a cell mate when released since I was doing time out of state. He gave me a coat and a pack of smokes. Bunch of guys offered me work for when I get out.
We went to church twice a week. Recreation twice a week, haircuts once a week. Fed us three solid meals. I ended up reading 10 books.
Came out stronger mentally and physically.
I'm glad its over tho, I'm with my kids now enjoying being a dad.
Jails not for everyone but if you are respectable, stand your ground, and adapt easy to different situations you will be fine.

I did time in New York about 5 years ago and it was pretty similar. Mind your business and hold your own and you will be fine. They did a lock up episode on the jail I went to in new york and its really deceiving how they make these facilities look hard.

The only times I get along with people in jail is in the bubble. Just me and another guy so there really aren't ever any domination issues. Felony block is ok also but there are perverts in any block. It's usually the sex offender that doesn't know respect.
Once I had a fat kid kick a chair out from under me. Seems some people try to reserve a chair. Dumb kid was trying to start a fight and get me more time. Fat fucker!

I'd rather get buttraped than go to church twice a week. At least I could maintain my dignity.

I'll go to church over get butt raped. But it is bullshit that they force people in jail to a religious service. Like everyone there is all there for not being christian. I think a lot of us are there because Christians have an authority complex.

All activities were optional. Almost everyone did not go to church. And by church I mean a pastor comes into the jail and just shoots the shit with the inmates for an hour. They obviously did not and can not force you to attend.

No probation? Just a 2 month and you are free?
I've only had that happen once. Usually they love to hang more time over your head.

Are you a prick by chance?
j/k
It's very dependant on region.
i thought about starting a Yelp for jails, lol.
CO was sweet, but i only know of one county. easiest time i did by far.
Florida jails vary greatly from county to county. Only place i ever fought while incarcerated was a county jail in FL.
Prison was a little more hard core as far as the line you have to walk and how many minor things can be considered disrespect but theres more freedom by far.
OP, what region or county if you don't mind sharing?
Glad you are out. i did 40 days not long ago and got let out on a technicality. i should still be in there but sometimes you get blessed and fall through the cracks.
Anyway, I'm glad you had a decent experience and that you are free now.

I keep having nostalgia about the fun I had in prison, the good times. Then I heard today "hey saturday sun" by boards of canada. It reminded me that I hadn't heard it for half a year, I had asked a friend to get me the album sent in, but they wouldn't release it to me unless I had a device to play cd's, and £10 for a cd walkman, then £12 for the decent philips headphones (with 3 meter cord) is a lot of money when all you earn is £2.50 a week.
I was in a drug program (easier work than cleaning toilets, better pay) and part of it included acutpuncture in my ear. It triggered the song, I heard it, and it brought me to tears. I hadn't heard any music apart from chuch hymns for half a year, so when I heard that song, I was so grateful, and since then that song has been special to me.
But anyway, was driving around today, heard the song, and reminded me, that yeah, some things in jail were alright, but the beds, and the lack of freedom is not.

Why did the drug program both:
a. Pay you
and
b. Puncture a hole in your ear
?

Jails and prisons are usually made to appear worse than they really are, you know because they don't want people thinking for themselves and using those goddamn illegal droogs which make ya think all funny like.
Welcome back to the free world.

So, any activity, be it work or education, you get paid for, it's why when I moved prisons I had mornings in the workshop, and afternoons doing maths and english. One of the tutors on the program was learning actupuncture and did it on ears, so I volunteered.
