I'm looking to get a set of tables and mixer soon, and am just looking for either advice, tips on what to look for, or equipment you may be looking to move. I have a couple friends I'm talking to that know where to guide me, but I figure more input usually doesn't hurt.
I thought this would get way more attention than the marketplace, and it's also more directed to feedback than just a LF listing.

if u want vinyl turntables, the best are Technics 1200's. But they are SPENDY.
New ones are 1000 each. Used are about 500-900 and are well worth the money.
I went another route (cause i like to be different) and got some Numark TTX-USBs. They are about $350 new. They are built tough, work well and look futuristic BUT the motor has lost some of its torque over time. On Technics, the motors torque should stay strong for its long lifetime.
Mixers are spendy too for a proper one. I went with a American Audio MKII 2-Ch. Its pretty decent cost about $180 new.
A real decent mixer is about 300+.
Its an expensive hobby but so much fun

I'm in the market for tech 12's, but they stopped making them a while back, thus you can't buy them new anymore.
I haven't even gotten into looking at mixers yet. I'll cross that bridge after I get the decks up and running, and have more time to sort out. It seems like there's literally hundreds of them and it's gonna take some serious effort to figure out what I want and can afford.
How do you like yours?

its this one.

i have to look for it if your serious. they need new needles and one turntable needs balancing but they both play fine.
Though id appreciate it ,I wouldn't feel right getting too much given that its used or whatever i was just trying to find you a cheap way to try out this hobby without investing too much.
Idk though, maybe you have money and want to get a nicer set in which case i still have vinyls if you want to get a collection started with stuff ranging from The Eagles to Method man.
The former are from my dads collection so they're old and the hip-hop vinyls i ordered on line.

I wish it was louder output but its really quite nice. it feels like the minimal amount of money u can spendy to get a decent mixer.
Theres obviously others out there, but u gotta have the right budget for them.
But the features on the mixer are perfect for a vinyl-only dj (no digital effects).

eBay has a ton of used Technics. They have high resale value since there are the best out there.
Heres one for 400 (with shipping): http://www.ebay.com/itm/Technics-SL1200MKII-DJ-Turntable-FREE-ODYSSEY-case-and-ORTOFON-needle-/152344044817?nav=SEARCH

I've been looking, and am sourcing the market.
Thanks for the link, was looking at that earlier.
I guess I'm just trying to see if - 1- someone here wants to sell me their high quality tables 2- someone has been mixing vinyl for a long time and has some input on what i should look for

I bought my Technic 1200 mkIIs over 15 years ago, new, for 450$ apiece. They still work smooth as butter. I don't really know what the market looks like for them nowadays, but I know there's always used ones on eBay. It's the kind of item that is safe to buy used because those things are tough. I really recommend 1200s, nothing else compares. Not only are they durable, but they make dj'ing so much better because you don't have to compensate for subpar decks. They make things easier.
The mixer isn't as important. Mine is a Vestax PCV-175, I think I paid 200-250$ for it all those years ago. But as long as you get something that can fade smoothly from one channel to the other, picking a mixer isn't as big a deal as picking the right record player. Again, I'm not up to date on pricing, but I'm sure you can get a totally serviceable mixing console for 100$ or less. If I was buying one, I'd probably get a new one over a used one because mixers aren't as durable as Technic 1200s, and that's a piece of equipment that people tend to beat up on. It's very frustrating dealing with a mixer that you have to repair, or has limited functionality. Get a new one, but get one that's relatively bare bones; starting out, you don't need all the bells & whistles, and while something like a Pioneer DJM-600 is awesome, it's totally unnecessary.
Good luck dude, hmu with any questions or however else I can help you.

Just found out my current turntables, Numark TTX USB, are no longer for sale.
I now own a pair of rare Turntables baby!

Looks like this Numark TT250 is its replacement: http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-NUM-TT250USB?src=Y0802G00SRCHCAPN&scid=scplp12366738&sc_intid=NUM+TT250USB&gclid=CLfZ1OD18NACFQ6bfgodJ7UHGw
looks exactly like a Technics 1200 but costs only $300. Its the highest end u can go with Numark. Looks decent to me. I know my TTX is quite decent indeed.
I also looked at some custom Technics, like white and black, some go for $1000-1500 for one table!
Damn wish i was rich

i can't believe 1200's are $1000 a pop now. you used to be able to get a nice used pair for $300.
i'd go with 12's if you're going with vinyl. if you're wanting to mix electronic music i would recommend a pioneer mixer. the DJM series is great. an older DJM750 would probably be perfect if you're not needing a bunch of bells and whistles. if you're wanting to mix beats and breaks/hip hop and scratch, get a two channel vestax battle mixer. they're all pretty good. my only complaint with vestax is that the curves on the faders of the mixers i've owned/used aren't super great (like you have with the pioneers). they're hardly trash though.
i honestly don't see the appeal with vinyl, especially now that the equipment is so costly. don't get me wrong, i learned to spin vinyl in my early 20's. it's a lot of fun. but for the kind of money you have to spend on equipment alone (not to mention the stacks of cash you'll be dropping on wax every week if you're serious), it's silly when you compare it to a solid digital dj set up for not even half of that (along with the $20 a week in .wav/.mp3's that will get you more than enough music to learn and spin every week).
as someone who has literally grown up around a lot of working dj's, people who have houses full of wax, i think the vinyl obsession is silly. no disrespect to the connoisseurs, but it's just not practical for most people, especially beginners. if i were to ever give dj'ing a serious go i would go digital all the way. i pretty much have everything i need for it aside from the time.

Some folks just like vinyl, millzy.
I love vinyl, but I can't stand vinyl purists. CDs & digital formats have merit too, especially if you're gigging. But I think Phil wants to just play at home, and he's already hooked on the black crack. I do agree that a vinyl set up may not be the most practical, but it's just so much fun. Also, if he wants to later switch to digital, he can just get serato or a similar set up, integrate it all. There's an appeal to dj'ing with just vinyl.
Which brings me to another point that I think you'll get because we're about the same age. Every time I see an event flyer that has "ALL VINYL SET!!!" or even "ALL VINYL NIGHT!!!" used as a selling point, it kinda takes me aback. I never thought about it back in the 90s, that vinyl would become so scarcely played that it's now a novel selling point. Time was that unless the flyer specified "live PA", you assumed it was an "all vinyl night". When you'd see a dj on CDJs, it was crazy, like "damn, this guy has serious money". And now I've got bracelets with flash drives in them so if I was ever out & wanted to do an impromptu set, I could pop my music off my wrists & play off the cdj. The technology is awesome any more. But I still think it's great when people want to learn to mix the old way.

oh yeah. don't get me wrong, i like vinyl. i'm not trying to talk phil - or anyone else - out of collecting and learning to spin vinyl. people are entitled to their preferences. i was just sharing mine.
and i can't stand vinyl purism. for anyone to hold such a position in a field of music that prides itself on technological innovation and discovery is laughable. for me it's always been about what's coming out of the speakers rather than what's going on in the booth. if i'm paying to hear someone play, i just want to hear a good set. i couldn't care less about how that happens.

i agree. vinyl purism is silly to me.
I like to use both vinyl and digital music.
playing digital music is way more cost effective. I saw a motorized turntable deck from Numark (has 2 decks) for $500. great deal. Even thou it only works with a computer, its pretty awesome IMO and most music is digital these days anyway.
That being said, theres nothing like scratching a vinyl record thou.

pretty insane right. I bet $2500 of that is in the motor itself

even with scratching, digital surpasses vinyl. one of the huge differences is that with digital scratching is that the sound quality is not diminished when you scratch; with vinyl, depressing the record with your finger warps the sound. if you listen for it in any of your dj sets in your collection that feature scratching, you can probably tell.
here's d-styles (of the invisibl skratch piklz) using the vestax spin controller. sounds pretty good to me.
i think the platters need to be a little larger on the controller though.

Was it Dj fresh?
Another reason why i like vinyl tables is the size. All digital tables are small, like 8", while vinyl is 12". Big difference.
I still prefer the sound of vinyl scratching, i guess im a scratch pervert

just found out Pioneer makes their own Dj table, and its decently priced at 350$: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pioneer-PLX-500-Direct-Drive-DJ-Turntable-Black-/272414097146?nav=SEARCH
And Pioneer has a good rep for quality. their car decks are really nice and their CD decks are unmatched and basically dominate the CD Djing market.
I would pick up a pair if i could
