Omphalotus olearius? Luminous Jack o Lantern?

Habitat:
Found at the top of a bluff in the Balcones CanyonlandsNational Wildlife Refuge in Travis Co. TX. Juniperous ashei the dominant tree species, also Rhus decidua and some various red and white oaks.

Gills:
Color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc.

Stem:
Length, diameter, color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc.

Cap:
About 5 inch Diameter, Orange color, firm texture.

Omphalotus have decurrent gills, these are adnexed/notched.

Like you see in Cortinarius and Tricholoma, amongst others.

Three points you should take note of if you find this or similar species again are
odor, flesh color (slice a mature specimen lengthwise in half) and of course the
spore print.

I'm putting half a dime on Tricholoma in this case, however they can be
hard enough to identify  - and the other contender, Cortinarius, is
likewise, with its 2000+ (described) species.

lol, yes,  I'm aware of the spore print being probably THE BEST tool. I happened upon this guy at sunset in a canyon i'd never been in before. Mostly I'm new to studying fungi with anything more than thinking "hey that's cool looking" and I'm just becoming cognizant enough to carry paper. Y'all will learn me :tongue:

I'm well versed in the local native plants, I thought it time to start learning the fungus too. Thanks again y'all!
