I have decided to revive my old WL-Tek as a substrate casing mix. It produces intense coloured fruits, and much larger caps.

Ferather said: Here is something interesting, I have a cheap vendor bag of Pink oyster, rife with crap. I went to throw it out, but then decided to put it in the fridge at 2°C, regardless.
Two months later, it's still alive and active, but very slow. There is also metabolites for obvious reasons.
Pink oyster, alive after 2 months at 2°C, really? Are you sure? That species usually dies if refrigerated. If not, it's a good strain you have there, I'd try to clean it up and save it! And while you're at it, send me a copy

The slime and smell made me throw it out about a week ago. Never got around to cleaning it. I got the infected spawn from a vendor, So I can get more another time.

Yeah, I almost guarantee you that slime and smell was because the culture was dead and the contam's had taken over. Like you said, it was probably already contaminated to begin with, but just so you know, do some research before refrigerating your next pink oyster culture, it may not be the best idea.

I already knew that it was meant to die below 10°C, and yes it was already infected. It had stalled before the fridge. However I will let you off because no doubt you have not been following my tests and experiments.
I was testing an agar cleanup method with several dirty cultures.

Managed to salvage it from the outdoor bin, I added another outer bag before I brought it in. Outdoor temps also drop below 10°C, I have taken images, It may still be salvageable.

Off topic, but to clarify, yeah blue oyster is a TOTALLY different, non-tropical culture.
With blues, you can take a substrate with partially grown mushrooms, throw it outside in the winter and let the fruits freeze, bring it back inside, and they will continue to grow. Blues are the MOST cold hardy of all the oysters that I know of.

I guess, if someone says there is
The strain I use fruits anywhere from just above freezing to 90F, so I guess it's kind of a cold AND warm blue. Better quality fruits below 70 though. But some of the biggest mushrooms I've gotten when I toss the buckets outside in the mid-summer heat.

I've managed to fruit Golden oyster at 8°C, outdoors, so that sounds right to me. I have also had Summer oyster push some pins at 10°C, outdoors.
