Pinning or contamination?
    #23913799 - 12/10/16 04:44 PM (7 years, 2 months ago)

Hi, so my jars are about 90-95% colonized and I woke up today and saw something I hadn't seen before. At first I freaked out because I was thinking they're contaminated, but now I'm thinking they look like little pins. In which case they are, what do I do? Do I let them finish colonizing and still wait the extra week or do they need to come out now? This is my first time growing so I'm a bit clueless and appreciate any input!

Just some pins but it seems like the mycelium is having trouble colonizing that spot of the jar. Also it looks like you have knotting forming for more pins.

Early pinning can be caused by too tightly packed jars or usually unseen bacterial contamination.

Given that you could take it out of the jar, scrap away the uncolonized portion, soak, fruit and hopefully get a first flush. The pins might abort though

You could also track the growth and see if it will finish soon enough but admittedly I don't have much experience with this situation hopefully someone who does can help more.

The spot on the front looks like vermiculite that fell from the top. At any rate, let them consolidate for a week and birth them all at the same time.
