What is a good recipe for a coir-based bulk substrate? Is it just coir, 50/50 coir/vermiculite by volume, or what?

For the bucket tek and nothing else. 1 650g brick of coir, 3 dry quarts of verm,5.25 quarts of boiling water.
Favorite outside of bucket tek. Two bricks of coir, 8qts of straw grinded up into almost powder, 6qts of dry verm and 25 qts of water, 3 table spoons of lime. Mix in a big as tote. Use gloves. Then cooked in the oven at 170 degrees for 2 hours. If you hate pasteurization then ship it.

What advantage does the verm give?

How many quarts of loose coir does a brick turn out to be when it's shredded?
And how do you feel about pc'ing coir, instead of pasteurizing it? Some people said they do that.

Nutrients and moisture retention.

About 8 when hydrated.
You can sterilize coir/verm or pasteurize it, it doesn't make much of a difference because they are both pretty resilient and contam resistant.
Pretty much any other additive will require it to be properly pasteurized and not sterilized.
