What's going on with these lions mane? (pics)
    #23912811 - 12/10/16 11:26 AM (7 years, 1 month ago)

I'm curious why I'm getting really different physical characteristics for fruits off the same block.  Some of these guys look like healthy, round grapefruit-ish goodness while others look like they're suffocating.  Weird thing to me is that the coral-looking ones grow out just fine, but don't have a spherical shape.

And then these guys are on their second flush and are turning off-color.  Lack of moisture maybe?

What do you guys think?

I just picked some with the brownish color. They had some rot at the base. Maybe want to check the brown area.
Others look typical of what mine do.

Thanks Quadman.  What should I be checking for?  What do you think is the cause?

Not sure of cause maybe bacterial? Just look at the very base of the brown area. I just picked and dried mine discarding the little rot.

When I occasionally grow some indoors and get lax in misting they will get that yellowish/brownish color and look a little 'wilted' from the drop in moisture and humidity.  When I have watched videos of commercial production they are practically growing in a cloud of moisture.

I've heard they are very sensitive to over/underwatering. They can get bacterial blotch from over watering and get yellowish and dried out from underwatering
Beautiful fruits by the way!
What strain are you working with?

Hey Shroom , care to share your recipe and bags? You've done an outstanding  job with this grow! Any conclusions with the brown off?

That brown shading is age related when outside! Or so I believe.

Thanks Quadman.  My recipe is pretty run-of-the-mill supplemented sawdust.  The bags are 2 lb. 2 oz. hardwood fuel pellets, 6 oz. wheat bran, and 2 lb. 12 oz. water (ounces by weight).    Each of these blocks averaged 9 oz. on the first flush - not exactly sure what a decent yield is for LM, but I've got 5 more pounds to sell, so I'm happy.

Never did figure out what the issue with the browning was for the second flush.  I think I didn't do a good enough job of removing the base tissue from the first flush, but I'm just guessing.

I've seen a guy on youtube who grow lion's mane and the browning was because he was misting them. He didn't mist the second flush and they were perfectly white.

perhaps try to fruit them off the side...
I tried the top fruiting method, and never got the best results with it.
Brotip- be super careful with the slits you cut, the tiny up-pointing-plastic bit collects stagnant water and contaminates easily with bacteria.
but yea, side fruiting, mate...

shroom on,
Casual.

Thanks for the tip, Casual.  I'm beginning to think it's bacteria too.  Nice fruits!
