I used karo like I do for dung lovers (psilocybe cubensis).. inoculated it with ovoid spores and the solution looks cloudy months later and all I see is a very small amount of whispy growth.

Same way you should with cubensis, from clean agar cultures not spores. The spores probably carried some nasty shit like bacteria right in to the LC.
Really you should avoid LC if you don't also use agar.

LCs are great but you need a very good sterile technique to get good results. It is almost impossible to spot contaminations in LCs.

I used 4% honey solution from a clean agar wedge to make P Azurescens LC and it worked great

Shoot those spores in that LC topsy! Like there's no tomorrow attaboy!
For those of you trying to help him here, don't waste your energy, just play along and let topsy do its thing, you ain't gonna make him see no fucking reason

Make your own wood loving spawn from paper pellets and grain flour. I am doing the same right now with a sample test here.

LCs solutions shouldnt be cloudy. you got bacteria up in that jawn. myc growth aside. if the media is cloudy lookin its all fucked.
the LC is as much bacteria food as it is cube food.

It's the same for any sugar or starch based media.

I've found that liquid culture recipes don't need to be changed for different species. I use 0.7 grams Malt Extract per 500 mL of water. That translates to about 1/8 of a teaspoon.
Using such a small amount of ME really encourages growth and keeps the water clear looking. Easier to spot bacterial contams.
Drop a small slice of mycelium from agar into your LC jars and it will exponentially multiply until it has used up all the nutrients. Test your LC on a jar before inoculating bulk.
It should end up nice and thick like this.

That's what I wanted to know, thanks.
And I too am from Philly. I'll get an agar plate from ebay and try to get something clean from these spores.
