could I cut myc out of a lazy pf jar and spawn a grain jar?

My pf jars have been doing nothing for three months. My plan of action is to sterilize a few wbs jars and put in some pieces of myc that I cut out of a pf jar that's through doing anything. Worthwhile attempt? I'm a month away from having homemade spore syringes and wanted to actually see the differences in colonizing speed for wbs.

Well if you have shitty mycelium in your cake jars why would you put it in a new jar.

It's clean and healthy, just moving slow. Pfs take longer than wbs? Theoretically this is possible though right? Would be done inside a glove box and all of that...

Maybe its going slow due to bad temp or bacteria. You would probably be better figuring out why its going slow first.

None of the jars has any sign of bacteria... nothing but white myc and the pf mix. They're stored at 70 degrees. What about air flow? The jars have two holes punched in the top with aluminum foil over that. Is that enough air flow?

Bacteria can cause slow growth without being overt. Pictures would sure help.

It's not clean and healthy if it's going that slow.......

You're not supposed to leave the foil on post-inoculation, either. Messes with your GE. Only having two breather holes/inoculation points probably didn't help you either.

yeah i doubt it will help brotha, but take the foil off and let em breathe, they might just take off, if not throw em in the compost!

Now I'm wondering why the fuck I put the foil back on post inoculation! I feel like blaming some video I saw on YouTube where the dude recovered it after injection. I'm throwing out anything that looked suspicious. Twenty jars are now on my hot water heater with the foil off. see. That fucking ashore in YouTube....

YouTube has no way to verify credentials. You could go make a mushroom video and say a bunch of bullshit. If the video looks legit people will eat it up.

Yes it is...
I expected mistakes and successes when I started this hobby.
This would also explain why I lost a mono to green mold. The jars are taking too long letting bacteria catch up. And now I understand why my grower friend was trying to explain tyvec and wbs. It all makes sense now...
Thanks people. I'll post pics of the jars now and after a couple of weeks here when I get on a laptop.

30 jars smelled partially fermented, so they all went in the trash.
Three looked healthy so I tried my new lids out. I punched three holes in each lid and then flipped them to tamp down the rough edges on the underside for future tyvek, which is what I plan on using. They started out about 1/4 then went to 1/8 after I tampped in the edges. I didn't use tyvek on the remaining jars, just the lids with coffee filters banded on. The jars took off! Colonized in just a few days!
Which brings me to my next thing... Will a square of tyvek then the lid ring and top with holes with a coffee filter banded on be enough? The silicone tek looks fab but I really don't want to mess with adhesives if I don't have to.I

Also a bad idea. Direct heat is not good for your cakes. It will cause them to dry out and is probably the main reason your last jars failed
If I were you I would try following PF tek to a T That means 4 holes, not 3, in your jar lids, no tyvek etc. You're grows are failing due to trying to experiment before having a successful grow on your belt. Did you try spawning PF cakes to bulk? Try fruiting them as cakes rather. Spawning cakes to bulk is not recommended

I've spawned about 6 cakes in a sgfc. I've had two successful bulk grows using cakes, they weren't 5 oz successful, but they worked. The cakes did fine over the heater because it has a thick top and it doesn't get hot per say just warm. The cakes weren't breathing at all, and I was storing them in a closet.

Did you put a jar over that patch of trich? Hahahah that's pretty fucking funny!
Trich is like a iceberg tho, you're only seeing the tip of it.
It intertwines with mycelium and is active and going ape shit under the surface.

The jars are taking too long BECAUSE they have bacterial contamination. Bacteria reproduces faster than cubensis mycelium, so there's no point in putting both of them in a jar and expecting it resulting in solely mycelium.
That's why you need to use proper sterile technique when inoculating them.
and don't move on to grain before you do a successful grow of pf cakes. Just start over, this time doing exactly what rogerrabbit says in let's grow mushrooms.
and don't bother with that tub, just toss it's content.
