pasteurization question

Let's say I used an ice chest, boiled water in my pc until it hits 5-10psi then turn off and release pressure and dump water in cooler with coir/verm...if this would work could I add cow poo in theory?

There is no point to pressurize water. It's still going to be the same temp (boiling 212F) when you depressurize it. Do not add cow dung into the mix. It requires that you pasteurize it properly.

But what if the temp holds steady at 160°F for over an hour? I prepared some coir/verm last night, temps held at 160°F and have only fell 50°F in 8hrs...why wouldn't that work? My coir is still sitting at 110°F

IF I remember correctly on the 'improved bucket tek' thread some people used manure, pasturized (160*F/1-2hours)
I would stick to loading them in bags. Because firstly how do you know the exact amount of water to boil? You have exact measurements for what the field capacity is? Safe option is to prep to field capacity and pasturize traditionally imo

I didn't add poo, just wondered if it would work since I kept track of temps...and I usually boil 5qts to a full brick of coir and 2.5qts verm...4qts water ends up a little dry IMO..

sounds like your good to go!
if you can get the center to stay at 160 for an hour or so you are good.
however i agree with filthyknees. its tricky to pasturize in the bucket unless you got the water content 100%. when i worked with poo i found no batch used the same amount of water. it was all based of field capacity which varied batch to shitbatch.

If you use a pillow case you shouldn't worry about field capacity.
When you get it out to drain and cool, squeeze test it to make sure its at field capacity.
For me it always drains by it self to field capacity.
I use the cooler box to pasteurise too, so IME stick to pillow cases if you'll pasteurise in a cooler box.

You could get lucky and have that happen. The thing is, you don't have any control over the temperature. You are just throwing hot water over your substrate and hoping for the best. Your temp could end up more than 160, or under 140. No Way Know For sure. That's usually good enough for coir/verm, but poo needs more precision. Try it if you want, but your chances of success will be patchy at best. If you are not willing to learn proper pasteurization techniques, then just skip the manure.

I seriously don't get how people say this works. I did pillowcases for the longest time and I had to squeeze the shit out of them for proper hydration. It was a terrible hassle that I never want to go through again. Poo holds so much water and gets runny af. I even let it drip dry for 3+ days and still had to squeeze a shit ton..

That's weird, mine is at proper field capacity as soon as it cools down/
Could it be that i use horse manure? Did you use horse manure?
Cus i haven't tried it with cow.

Baby steps indeed. Until you have a full understanding of what you're doing, I would not recommend deviating from the tek you are using (I'm assuming damiens bucket tek). Using big coolers, manure, and pressurizing water are not in the tek. Not trying to be a dick, just trying to steer you into a successful path.

You shouldn't release pressure from your cooker.

That's only to keep from creating a vacuum....my pressure cooker is the only pan I got big enough to boil 5qts at a time...it is what it is...but I am still going to use my cooler...I like how well it holds heat
