Hey guys first time King oyster fruiting and I am just wondering if I should remove the mycelium block from the container while fruiting?
As you can see from the pics it has pins coming up from the bottom of the sides.

I was going to case the top with vermiculite but I am not sure if I have left it too late.
Thank you in advance.

Whether you case it or not I would leave it in the container.

I took it out the pins aborted but now there are new ones coming up. I had a problem where my pipe running humid air in got blocked so I think that has delayed them a bit.

I would leave it in the container. King oysters (some strains anyway) have a problem that they pin TOO MUCH, I often have to prune a lot of the smaller ones if I want some big fruits. Your substrate has X amount of energy (nutrition), so the more fruits you allow to grow, the smaller they will be. I like to select the best looking 3-4 clusters and kill off the rest right when they pin, that way all the energy goes into the good clusters and the mushrooms grow bigger.
Some strains of kings will kind of what I call "self prune", in that most of the pins will abort themselves and only a few larger clusters will grow out. I find these strains the most desirable if I were going to grow them commercially.

Your right about the self pruning, I have never had to trim clusters off by hand, but it might be strain related. I like to let them pin invitro by introducing the blocks to cold conditions and open them within a week.

Well the original pins have aborted but there now are lots of little pins that don't seem to be growing big. The biggest mushroom so far is about two inches long and looks like it is matured.
The growth is slow and caps are staying small even though humidity and air exchange is adequate. I have had some large temperature swings going up to 30c.
I now have build a evaporation cooler so I hope this will help.

Yeah, it definitely does appear to me to be strain related. I ran 3 or 4 strains side by side and some did it fine, the others if I didn't prune just grew a shitload of really small mushrooms.
I agree with your method of letting them pin invitro via a cold shock and then adding more airflow (always works!).

From what you said here, and this is just a hunch, but it appears you have a strain that could benefit from pruning. When you say you have lots of pins that aren't growing big, and your biggest mushrooms are 2" fully matured, you might find great benefit by pruning the smaller ones AS SOON as they appear, then the rest should grow bigger. Either that, or supplement and sterilize your blocks.
