All of them

Hey Ferrel sorry I took so long to respond.

The little Rifat with all the red spots and red edges almost stalled out completely until just a few days ago and it's still growing extremely slow, Its still very pail light green ish yellow ish. 2 sets of leaves started growing, it has 2 stems, with no spots or red edges so I picked all the ugly leaves off of it and only left the 4 new leaves.

So its not healthy at all but its looking better. The edges of the new leaves are still curled upward. Well I cant really say curled up because its very subtle but the edges are pointing up a little, instead of down as they normally do.

The tall Lanky Bumble b with the really deformed/munched on leaves, remember they would pop out of thew leaf bud like this, the one I accidentally knocked off a new growth from the lower end of the stem, this one is actually doing much better. The new leaves havent quite started coming out completely normal yet but they are much better and I predict that the next set of leaves should come out completely normal. Its defiantly starting to pick up speed, its starting to grow pretty fast. There are a bunch of new growths coming in all down the stem, it wont be lanky for long. Its going to start filling in. I did however find green aphids on one of the smallest new growth leaves and they stunted that leaves growth a little bit. There might have also been white flies on the undersides of the upper leaves.
I will be spraying them with a neem, sulfur, and pyrethrins spray I will be mixing up myself. The only thing that bothers me a little about this plant is how much it leans over to the side. But its doing much better and up until today all Ive done is dust it with diatomaceous earth. This is all I had on hand. But like I said starting tomorrow Ill be spraying it with that cocktail I described a second ago.

Last but not least the smaller Bumble b that was also getting its leaves munched on by something while inside the leaf bud (not as bad as the tall bumble b) was also dusted with diatomaceous earth on many occasions and has made very good progress, its also starting to pick up speed but this one is already growing perfectly normal leaves unlike the tall one.

Question to all you guys...

I forget what I had read are the visual differences between Bummble bs and Rifats.

Can you guys please remind me what the difference between them is so that I can identify what I have. I think the vendor I got them from mislabeled them.

I know one has rounder leaves and the other has slightly more elongated leaves.

So which is which?

Both of these came labeled Bumble b but one has rounder leaves and the other longer leaves.

I will try to post some new pics soon so that you can see the differences between them and the progress theyve made.

Love, Light, & Happy Trails

Ferrel... I spoke too soon... The sickly Rifat is starting to look bad again... But its okay I have a bunch of healthy Rifat cuttings in the rooting chamber now.

Sorry the indoor picture didn't work out, there isn't enough light for a decent picture. They look pretty bad anyway, and I severely pruned them to get them to fit inside. At this point, I'm just waiting for spring and summer.  I would like to add that I've got a fairly large Bumble Bee that I didn't bring inside. It's sitting in my mostly dark garage, temps will get down in the 40's. I'm surprised that it looks
As good if not better than the plants inside. Those same conditions may have killed my B. caapi, it's dropped all its leaves. It sure would be nice to over winter my plants in the garage, I'll see how it works out.

Here is the indoor photo in better light. Also, the BB that's surviving in the garage. I rooted it in late summer 2015. It grew to the size and shape of a Christmas tree last summer, but I pruned it back when it got colder. Check out the size of the trunk! All of you with your smaller plants will have this to contend with next year, so start thinking about your winter strategy.

Damn Something is still munching on my plants :mad2:

But on a good note... My Bumble b just popped its new leaf bud and instead of just 2 leaves popping out, 2 leaves and 2 new branches with 2 leaves each branch popped out

Im new to growing kratms so Im not sure if this is a common occurrence or not but its the first time I see it and I thought it was really cool.

Anyone else see this happen often?

Also if I post a pic of the leaves that were munched on would anyone here be able to tell what was eating them?

At first I thought it might be snails because there are a ton of snails here at my house but I looked at my plants during the day, it was perfectly fine, then a little later I came back and it got munched on by something and there was no snail in sight. Plus I read somewhere that the snails eat mostly a night. This was in the afternoon and it was very hot out. I also read they like to hide in cool moist places so the fact that it was very hot, mid afternoon and there was no snails insight makes me think it probably wasnt any snails.

Do lizards eat katms? Ive seen lizards handing out on my kratms a few times, right on the leaves just lounging.

I just sprayed them today for the first time with a Neem oil, Sulfur, Pyrethrins, Potassium Silicate, and a hint of Biodegradable dish soap solution I mixed up.

Will this keep everything any from it? Slungs, Snails, Lizards, ect...?

Help....

I always seem to have fucking fungus gnats in my shit. I try not to over water but I can't seem to strike a balance. Other than that my babies are looking good. I have noticed that as the air gets dryer my leaves are kinda raggity looking with splits and tears but no leaf drop yet.

Hey Thumb, what you're seeing with the growing tips is normal. It's keeping the apical meristem and also developing side branches. You'll see that every time with the apical shoot from now on. Eventually, your side branches will do the same thing, especially with Bumble Bee. Your plant will start growing exponentially now, and will be huge before next winter. You'll be able to make dozens of cutting in just a few months.

Try using Neem cake to make a solution to water your plants with.

There are videos on youtube on how to do this to get rid of fungus gnats larva from your soil.

Theres no use in trying to get rid of the gnats unless you attack the larva in the soil.

Im no expert but in my experience once the roots are established enough the plants should be able to get enough water from the soil and it will keep the leaves from cracking but then again I live in an area with decent ambient humidity.

The reason I say this though is because maybe your leaves are cracking like that when it gets drier because the roots are unable to get established enough due to all those larva munching on your roots.

I would get rid of the mulch because thats preventing the soil from drying out properly. If you have the mulch there for that reason, to keep soil moist, then at least get rid of it while your battling the fungus gnats and their larva.

This is an extra and maybe over kill step but I would also pull the root ball out of the pot and turn the garden hose on low and carefully rinse off as much of the dirt as possible without damaging the root ball, then I would put it back in the pot with fresh dirt maybe even put it in a bigger pot.

I would use sticky paper and rest it sticky side up on top of the pots them selves because the gnats try to land on the soil to lay their eggs.

Hope this helps

Heres a couple links to help you out...

I had mine under some fancy pants grow lights and it was growing fast. I switched to  having fluorescents really close to it and it's still growing just as well.
It Would be nice to have a heated greenhouse or live in florida. I can tell this thing is gonna get seriously heavy.

So today I saw a little tiny spider(Not a spider mite) on my Bumble b...

This is okay right?

Its probably eating other critters that arent so friendly to my plant right?

Or could a spider cause any damage to my plant?
