handiwork
    #2390986 - 03/01/04 01:34 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

its about time i posted some handiwork of Idiotek and Hevvy_psi's friend of a friend...

these cakes were acquired fully colonized, from a friends previous op. this was operation #2. BRF/verm fruited straight onto perlite. the strain is B+. watche the magic unfold!

the (ghetto) setup: a large rubbermaid container, the center of whose lid was removed and replaced with seran wrap. thats a heater to the left, and some extra jars in the middle.

much to our dismay, the cakes looked like this for a good week or so. a nice picture of the inside of the fruiting chamber

finally, Idiotek's friend noticed a lil' something peeking out from UNDERNEATH the cakes...imagine the surprise and relief when the cakes were flipped over to reveal THIS

it was all downhill from there. within 3 days they had this

and in another day or two, this (notice two cakes in the upper left have been harvested)

hevvy's favorite cake:

and some wacky third flush shit going on...

the friends' next op is in the colonization stage, and my guess is they will be moving on to casing. good luck guys  :smirk:

you got very nice fruits off those cakes. 5 shrooms to you! Can't wait to see your casing.

sounds familiar
except what my dog did was let them grow inverted on lids, heavy condensation on the metal lids, but he figures it helps water uptake. suprisingly no contams this way, hes lucky i suppose. just heavy bluing from no in between dunks. but overall, he was happy

and it looks like you should be too, i am for you =)
congradulations, and good luck with the future experiements

yeah, our friends were very surprised with their first harvest, it's amazing how suddenly they took off after they first spotted the initial pins.

the biggest surprise for them had to have been when the pinning showed up UNDERNEATH the cakes! huge relief..

until next time.. wish them luck. i know I will.

just some insight, or maybe a question...either way

the reason the probably sprouted from the bottom is the dry vermiculite barrier on top, if you had such. so if its upside down, the pseudo-casing layer (dry verm) is on the bottom, and the mushrooms have to grow out, then up. at least this was true in my dogs case. thats also another reason to use dry verm barriers, they tend to be the spots where mass pins can be found, since the mycelium is growing through it as it would naturally or through a casing layer.

so i guess the question is, is that the case for you?

aahhh, yes, thats exactly the casem and i wondered about this myself. when we first birthed them, the verm layer was at the bottom. and thats where the pins appeared. very observant.
