Agar 2nd Transfer; Wheetabix
    #23908989 - 12/09/16 01:06 AM (7 years, 2 months ago)

As per Mycolorado suggestion I have changed my medium from CFA to a cereal based nutrient. I have used a lower concentration as per his suggestion and Wheetabix ground to a fine powder as the main nutrient.

These are pictures from that experiment and I must say I am impressed

Pictures are from 1st December

Agar transfers; 22nd November

Agar plates grew to this size in just 9days from transfer to picture time

Agar plates that were used

2nd Transfers

I did a 3rd transfer from the above plates onto new plates using the same recipe. Today I will check on them and provide pictures later on

Thank you very much Mycolorado, your suggestion worked brilliantly :super:

Thanks buddy!! :shineon: Your push was certainly in the right direction, if you have any interesting links for me to read up pass them my way

I will be opening a journal entry for this one. Hopefully I'll continue working on a couple of isolates, I want to have 5 isolates by the end of this experiment and then test out their grow

Currently testing a wild species of P. eryngii on this mediun too, crossing fingers for a good result

:highfive1: Dude, keep us posted on the wild Eryngii! Can I ask about the specimen, what was it growing on and environment like?

This species usually grows on the buried degrading stalks of Ferula communis but I have found it growing some other softwoods as well. I found it growing in numerous environments, soils ranging from strictly sandy/silt to heavily clay/loam, found it in garigue environments exposed to salinity, pine plantations...etc This specific specimen I found it growing between the cracks of tarmac on the side of a road with a rubble wall, there was a carob tree hanging above and no Ferula plant nearby

The specimen I used was infested by maggotts but I managed to take undisturbed samples deep within the basal stalk and edge of the cap using clean tissue found inside after being cleaned from maggotts, bugs...etc

Hopefully it works out and takes up to the wheetabix, IME it's mycelium is quite voracious

Here is a pic of the species I found last year, it's not the same specimen that is growing and this was growing in a heavy clay based loam soil in a pine plantation

Wow dude, gorgeous. I'm super jelly:sad: No, but really Eryngii is my favorite mushroom, it's really cool to see it in it's natural environment. If you run into them again I would love to see more pictures of them growing wild:thumbup:
