A good book
    #23908444 - 12/08/16 09:04 PM (7 years, 1 month ago)

Honest question, do you guys believe a good book is just as capable of a tool for changing a persons a perspective psychedelics are?

Personally, the psychedelics where what catalyzed my change in thinking, but it was the literature that really refined that thinking and gave it direction.
But I'd like to think the books themselves can be enough to "reprogram" ones "cultural operating system" without the aid of psychedelics.

I'm curious what you all have to say about this.

I've read over 10 books in the past 50 days.  They definitely can change your perspective on things. James Patterson has some good stuff.

I do about a book a week or two depending on how crazy my schedule is. I will likely be around one over the holiday season.

I began with books prior to indulging in the world of psychedelics. Essentially, I want to tap into other realms of consciousness. I want to challenge my limitations, fears, ambitions, and desires among other things.

I read DMT the Spirit Molecule and The Tibetan book of the Dead. Darkness Wild Shining. I read "Goal" by Brain Tracy. He suggests at the very minimum, read a book a week. Set some goals. Follow through. Repeat.

Its tricky. I am fascinated with time and the older I get, the more time passes. It is a crazy thing to witness and experience. Under the influence of mushrooms for instance, my grasp on time is practically nonexistent. One sec, I am on a trip, time is not moving, and then, suddenly its 4-5hrs later, and I am back. Its unreal.

If you want to explore your consciousness, do as Bruce Lee says, "expose yourself to various conditions and learn."

I read Sophie's Choice last year. Parts of it still haunt me from time to time.

Books, and further any form of art touches our basic humanity. We are influenced by everything we experience.

I've grown up very misguided which had lead me to be well not too well off. I have my moments but the years of negative self talk has clouded my judgement deeply. Can any of you help reccomnd a good character builijd/philosophy.

I my self have held  a very observational  view, being an introvert and what has greatly impact that is hanging out with friends  that have some deep rooted problems(homeless and complaining about it, and incmy head I could see everything possible to fix his situation but he has told me he doesn't need lectured just after complaining about it all.haha) I would sit and observe.  I have had moments of some what out togethor  but some how lost my way. There are moments it is there but can be shadowed for a great deal a time because I forget my deep insights in the present moment and wallow on my mistakes that could have done a lot which breaks me up.

yep. they can. some books are not just entertaining but insightful.
not even just philosophical or spiritual books.

but if it's a novel or something, it's usually more subtle than can be gleaned readily; you have to have some level of insight yourself, of course.

There is no action without the idea first in place.
Idea's without action are like seeds that haven't sprouted yet.
The important Art is I've done my part. Sewed these seeds, yo.

The idea I've sewed is already planted deep into your subconscious. The fruit it yields will never be any sweeter.

Depends what you want to know, the nature of reality predates written word, if youre looking to understand life you wont know shit until youve experienced it. Read the Gita, the Tao and all that, but without experience it means nothing.

Psychedelics are a small dose of reality, not up to par with a conscious OBE brought on intentionally, but words dont even begin, they give you absolutely nothing in that direction without experience.

So it depends what youre looking to learn, are we talking about accounting, architecture, meaningless platitudes and undriven speculation?

I would like to think my words can enlighten, but what I'm finding is that people need to have psychedelic experiences in the proper set and setting in order to truly comprehend the nature of reality. This doesn't necessarily involve the use of drugs, but for people who do drugs, heroic doses are definitely the way. 5 grams of mushrooms in silent darkness, said Terence, is where the rubber hits the road. Personally, I became enlightened through smoking full bowls of 60x salvia and Q's at a time of weed.
