These plates are my first Shiitake clones. This is first transfer. They looked great right from tissue transfer on...I have high hopes for these. The fruits are amazing.

Thanks man..The strain as far as I can tell is "77"...But I was told it is "66". Here's what it looks like.

This will grow in a wide range of temps from 10-30 C. It prefers to be cooler, and it gets very big. I'm keeping it at about 15 C but I bump it to 20 C to get more pins.

Pretty happy with the new spawn. Seeing it recover and start to spread in 2 days. The other spawn I started with took over a week to recover, if at all.

Its definitely welcome im thinking about making a shitake stirfry: 2 bell peppers 1medium onion 2 carrots thinly sliced 1/2 head of cabbage
Fry in soy sauce, rice vinegar, aji marin, hoisin, and your favorite seasonings till vegies are cooked through.
Add 1/4 lbs shitake and fry for ten more minutes.
Serve on brown rice

When do you know to harvest Shiitake? Some of my fruits look fairly mature but this is my first run with them so I'm not sure.

Usually they say when 50-70% of the gills are exposed. They keep longer that way. I just harvested my first Shiitake block and that work well for me. I let a few go past this but I used those straight away.

Good rule, but the less they open, the tighter, and denser they are. My personal preference is about no more than half open. Just my preference though. Of course the lower you go on their temp range also makes them nice and dense. Man I love shiitake!

What Jim said...Temp is such a tool with the right Shiitake strain.
I'm gonna have to eat some Shiitake this morning. They cause munchies...
