Here are some Night Velvet that I grew. My first time with them, and they didn't seem to produce many fruits, but they were very large, and meaty. One of them weighed 4oz!

Have a feeling it has a different name...I'm just learning Shiitake so these are blocks that I bought from another farm and fruited out. Just getting set up for sterilizing. Any thoughts on what this is?

Snowcaps? Idk

Very nice. I would imagine they got so big because there weren't very many of them. Most of the 3782 I've grown are fairly small, but very plentiful in number.

Inspirational indeed! How long were the vast majority of those in incubation for? I see some that were barely browned but producing like beasts! Having some trouble dialing in the perfect amount of incubation time. Beautiful pictures man!

Mushrooms are not digested properly raw. You should eat them cooked.

Howdy I recently purchased a Siitake kit ready to fruit, took a few clones before I cold dunked it.I have also inoculated some grain (barley) for log inoculation.
I live in Alberta Canada does anyone think an outdoor log grow will work in my area?
Planning on inoculating some poplar this winter, keep at 16c to see if it will colonise or not. I will try some other woods as well, poplar was just outside my door. I cut it green and plan on letting it sit for a couple of weeks before I soak it and drill some holes for spawn. Thanks for any advice. Orbit

Logs should be fine in Alberta. I don't do Outdoor Shiitake, but some people like the wedge method of innoculating vs plugs. Also might be good to run spawn on sawdust of your intended host logs.

Today looking at my first Shiitake bags , there are some half grown mushrooms and quite a few pins in my 3782. The block has some brown and was inoculated 11/14. What should I do slap and cold treat now? The bag was xl and had a lot of air space maybe that induced them? The all weather strain is mostly brown with no noticeable pins also from 11/14. Thanks for the help.
