That is 4" PVC under my block just to give size comparison.

Hmm, some side by sides with and without mulch would be interesting.

I read in an old thread Roger Rabbit was claiming good things from shredded bark in shiitake blocks. Larger particle size longer term energy. I thought it was good if for no other reason than it holds the block together.

Harvested my third block today. Didn't get any pics, but first two blocks I used about half a quart of spawn, this bag had almost a full quart jar of spawn added. Yield was close to the same, but I noticed these fruits were a bit more deformed. I need to get a scale this weekend.

Guess i'm just use to PE. The one block is doing great the other 4 blah. The one that's doing best was the only one I didn't slap around. That was the only thing i did different. Any thoughts on that.

We're they pinning already. You did say they were 6 months old you may have damaged the pins if so. I fruit 3782 at 2-3 months and it sometimes is already fruiting in the bag.

Seems like 3782 strain is something really special. Everyone talking about it. The one i didnt slap was the only one pinning. Not too stressed i play around with the newer batches and take it from there. Thanks for all the feed back, appreciate it.

My first three blocks that fruited have been resting outside of the chamber for a little over a week and a half maybe. Wondering if a second flush would be worth it. I guess soak, then cold shock before putting back on the chamber? I won't have much in there once these other two are done probably this weekend. On another note. On 2/14 ish I made two bags. One just wood pellets, one with a little coffee grounds. The coffee grounds one is still lagging behind the control.

I had left the block in the GH and noticed that right where condensation dropped from the intake ducting a single, cute shiitake formed.

So I cold shocked and dunked it and put it back in. Third flush from a block spawned almost a year ago.

Im ramping up shitake blocks, but getting tired of grain prep all the time. Thinking making bags of sawdust spawn from hwfp. What would be a good spawn/sub ratio for lipas tek? I'm currently spawning about half a pound grain to 5lb hwfp.without a flow hood I'm not to keen on adding supliments right now.

Yeah I wouldn't bother without a flowhood. I've done it in an SAB but it was a PITA

I'm not even going to mess with getting the sab out for that. I guess I'll try 1 Pound spawn and see how that works unless I hear otherwise.
