I woke up to this today. This is the same bag I posted a picture of the other day. I got busy and kind of forgot about them. I'm guessing I should open the bag, dunk and put back into the fruiting chamber?

Wow, there is some beautiful shiitake grows here! I've been trying to get my hands on the 3782 strain, but havnt been able to locate someone with one to trade. If anyone here has a spare dish lying around, pm me! I would be happy to pay for it, or trade. Trading would be cool, so I can get my rating up!

Good that you didn't toss it. Now you can try to birth it, it 'll give some shiitake I should think, at least one big one!

I cut the bag open last night. Beat it up real good and put it back in the chamber. I didn't cold shock this block simply because it was already producing. We'll see if that was a mistake or not. Here is a pic of the mushroom once I got it out of the bag and off the block.

Trading or selling discussion belong in the marketplace. Ive made this clear in the thread rules. No more buy/sell/trade discussion here. It isnt relative to the intent of this thread.

Sorry Mike, I wasn't having much luck from my thread, so I've started looking around shroomery for people cultivating gourmet and medicinal strains. I apologize ! Now I'm going to sit back and enjoy this shiitake thread

Nice thread, I'm trying not to get impatient reading all this. I'm just starting and will probably do an indoor grow soon but for now I have an oak picked out and just want to use plugs to noc up some logs outside.
A lot of people seem happy with 3782. Does anyone have tips on a good variety to choose? I want wide range so right now looking at the 3782 from Aloha or the WR46 from Fieldforest. FF also has the Native Harvest which looks good.

Silly question maybe, but how hard/though does a shiitake block get? Is it possible to poke it on a stick for fruiting? Or even bead them on a wire? Thinking about it for better air circulation, less deformed mushrooms due to growing into the shelving and possibly easier harvesting.

I use a short piece of 4" PVC pipe, just set my block on it.

I picked some off my first two blocks this weekend. Yum. These blocks I think got a little too warm during colonization, but for my first shitake, I think they are doing alright.i would have like to see more pins, but I'm happy with it. The picture that shows the harvest doesn't include the ones I picked Saturday. It's about the same amount.

Shiitake tacos?!?!?! That's a great idea. Do you have a particular way of cooking the mushrooms?
I found some 3782 fruiting outside in my pile of old subs today. Was already making cilantro-lime rice, black beans (with extremely hot peppers), and guacamole for taco night.
I'll probably just saute them in a drop of oil with taco spices (cumin, garlic, chili powder/paprika, salt and pepper). Thanks for the inspiration.

I forgot to cold shock. Doh! Also I think I opened a couple of the bags to early. I still have three bags colonizing in the closet as we speak and think one will be ready in a week or two. I also have o e with some coffee grounds that, while it isn't fully colonized yet, it is showing signs of popcorning. Time will tell. I did spot some trich on one my fruiting blocks earlier. It was sitting right under a drip in my humidification and it pooled up a bit. I need to order some more bags, I think next month I'll start making 6-10 bags a month.

Who says you can't grow shiitake on soy hulls.

That is 4" PVC under my block just to give size comparison.
