Shitake growers' thread

I couldnt find a thread like what im thinking of, so i started one. This is the shitake growers'thread.
To quickly describe the concept: I want to start a collection of knowledge, experiments, advice, and recipes exclusive to shitake in its various forms. Once again, i couldnt find a post like this so if it is a reapeat of another thread, just let me know.
The rules are simple: 1. Obey forum rules. 2. Do not post about other species, this is shitake only. 3. No trading, that is for the marketplace. 4. No negative, rude, or other malicious responses. No one knows everything, we are all learning.

5 lb blocks vs 10 you will get slightly higher BE with the 5 lbs. I was getting 1.2 lbs per flush off the 5lbs and just shy of 2lbs off each 10 lb. I didnt experiment any further around the 5 lb mark, say 4 lbs vs 5 lbs vs 6 lbs. This was all with 20% bran and oak sawdust.

3782 is the best like i said before but you likely wont find it on hobby sites. it is on aloha but its $400. your best bet would be the marketplace, or (gasp) some of the facebook mushroom groups.

I just bought 3782 from Ashville fungi for 30 dollars...
I bought mine from there as well, I will say I am very surprised at the lack of vigor though. Shiitake runs slower but not THIS slow. It has taken forever on agar, and grain. I bought 3782 spawn from aloha earlier this year and made some cultures from a few grains and even that is running 3x as fast as the one from Asheville. I've also had consistent contams issues with a brat strain I bought from them right from the get go. I'm not saying it's them, easily something I could have done, it just seems strange...
Anyway I'm running side by side tests with this next batch of 3782 and 75. Interested to see the comparison. So far 75 seems more aggressive. here are some logs we knocked up last year of 75 and have been fruiting non stop since fall.
