Electric pressure washer to power high pressure foggers
    #23903849 - 12/07/16 03:13 PM (7 years, 1 month ago)

https://www.amazon.com/Clean-AR118-Electric-Pressure-Washer/dp/B003B6KQZE/ref=vsbg_prssr_w_544477_sr/166-2251054-6924250?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1481147979&sr=1-19

Thinking of overhauling my humidifier and would love to swap to high pressure fogger after drake talking it up so much. Only downside is they cost $1-2k just for the pump. I can pick up a electric pressure washer for $1-200 then order some legit fogger heads and filtration system. The pressure washers are cheap enough to have a backup and come with a one year warranty and even have replacement parts available. Then I could stop having to clean my humidifier pail and get some floor space back.

I'm thinking have the intake fan blow into a duct and then have a fogger in the duct going off of a solenoid that is controlled by my humidity controller. See if I can source some sort of high pressure accumulator so the pump just kicks on for a few seconds every hour or so, filling the reservoir.

I could also have a few additional foggers in the chamber to mist the fruits going off a timer.

good thing about the one I got is that I'll never have to order any new parts for it.  I can even add another grow room or two and run them all off the same pump.  The heads never give out, you can just soak them in vinegar if they clog.

I would go with a mid pressure system if you just want to save some dough.  I imagine an $80 pressure washer isn't built to last very long.  I know a lot of farmers that buy used carbonator pumps off craigslist for cheap and use mid pressure nozzles.  They are more work to keep going, and don't last as long but very cheap.  I would also not install in a duct, it will just drip a lot more.

Yea im sure for an operation like yours you can easily justify the cost of the pump. For me it wold be a whole months grow income. The pressure washer i posted ive had for years and used for days at a time without it slowing down a beat. Its a bit low volume but thats exactly what i need. And if in the end the pump isnt good i can easily just toss the legit pressure pump on since the rest of the sytem will be high pressure.

I assume these wouldn't compare drake might have some input on these. They might provide too much airflow.

Im aware of the hydrofoggers, looking for a more compact setup that wont take up chamber space.

Let us know how she goes.  Mine runs like 5 minutes an hour tops.  I'd say skip the reservoir since it would probably be pretty $$$ for a 1000psi tank

Yea i was looking at high pressure accumulators. I found a 2k psi NOS part for $80 but it looks like its hydraulic and i doubt its food grade, and then there is finding the adapters to hook it all in, 2k psi fittings are hars to find and $$$. I bet with like 3 fogger heads down the length of the chamber it would only run for a few seconds every couple of minutes. Leaving tons of time for the pump and motor to cool down. Overheating from long cycles is the main enemy of pressure washers. Hard part will be finding the adapter to go from the pressure washers hose to the 1/4"  push fit nylon or ss hose for the foggers.

I just use mains water pressure fogging nozzles directly in front of the incoming air fan (nozzle points into the room in the air stream after the fan). Seems to work really well. I actually have a whole compressed air/ water set up with nozzles similar to Drake's but never bothered to install it.

Also sounds like its worth a shot. How often do you have it spraying?

Hooked up to digital humidistats. It is only 1 nozzle per room.

I think where a better/finer droplet system would score is when it is really cold and I am bringing the air up 15C so it is bone dry.

Any idea how much pressure there's on the waterline? I'm using well water and I ' ve got no more than 2 bar on the waterline, not sure if that's enough to use the nozzles?

Solarity, mind sharing a link on these nozzles you use?

Just common mister nozzles Got mine from LSS systems but any agricultural supply house does them or ebay. Nothing special - but you put them in the incoming air stream - I have mine pointed inside the vent tube against the air flow, excess runs out of the tube and is collected but the wet air gets blown into the room.

This.

But I would probably opt to point them with the flow of air? Is there a reason you chose not to.

Just better results with that particular nozzle, one of my other rooms has a 2 way nozzle so that is both for and against!
Best just to try it.

Solarity, are you using a soleniod valve to control it?

So i got another 120v 1/2 soleniod valve on order, mainly because its going to simplify wiring since my existing controller is for 120v. I plan to first try just using one of my DIG .8 gph misters in front of my 6" IF-6 blower. I'll delete my intake fan and just have a 4" hole with a short section of pipe going near the inlet of the circulation fan. This will make the 6" fan blend chamber air with fresh dry air so i wont get dry air bursts between mistings. Maybe not an issue for other locations but i commonly see low teens or single digit humidity here in the high desert.
