Outdoor Ps. Cyanescens Grow (first time)
    #23900916 - 12/06/16 06:42 PM (7 years, 1 month ago)

I've been lucky this year to have located several wild patches of psilocybe cyanescens. Unfortunately, one patch is being actively destroyed by the campus police so I figure I might as well take some of the mycelium woodchips and make my own outdoor bed.

Since I'm likely to be moving around a lot in the next few years I'm aiming for a portable patch. I live in the PNW so can leave it outdoors. I've been doing a lot of research and want to make sure I'm understanding correct and this will work.

I am going to get a large flower pot, fill it with specific wood chips, mix these woodchips with the mycelium woodchips, then leave outside and fruiting will begin next fall. I may cover with hay to insulate or put inside of garage.

My questions are, should I make a stronger culture out of the woodchips first or just stick em in there? Will it help if I make a strong mycelium in the garage to avoid losing growth to the oncoming cold? And would adding grass, or a plant like a Rhodedenron or strawberries, be beneficial? In what way? Is a flower pot going to be alright, what is the best option if not able to put directly in the ground?

Sorry for all the questions, very new to this. Basically aiming for something like this https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/8170774/fpart/1/vc/1/nt/4

Yep just mix with new chips in flower pots...plants are optional but will help move moisture and also create a great climate for pins when the time comes.

Interesting, thank you! Just wood chips in the pot? No soil or cardboard or anything? If I choose to have plants do I make a mixture or chips and soil? I love the idea of having a small fern and grass but am not sure how to incorporate the chips.

You could fill a pot halfway with soil and then layer woochips on top.  That way the plant can grow in the soil, while the mushrooms will grow in the woodchips.

Chips on bottom drain well...then you can top off with soil and a small amount of sawdust even then the sawdust is optional

I do similar to cronicr for outdoor wood loving, Gourmet in my case.
Make a cake indoors, fruit it outdoors, cased, see here.

Very easy and you get the heavy rain response.
