Homeless Tips
    #23899471 - 12/06/16 10:15 AM (7 years, 1 month ago)

I thought a thread about tips for being homeless could be nice.

I'll start. Acquire 1$, make your way to a 7/11. Generally they are warm and dry so I like to read magazines. Buy a nice bowl of instant ramen and head to the coffee machines, fill with boiling water and use chopsticks to eat.

Wa la. Sometimes I do this now even with a home and good food. Nothing beats the atmosphere of 7/11 at 3a.m

If you go to convenience stores like 7/11 late at night and ask politely if they have any food they are going to be throwing away, you may just walk out with an armload.

Favorite entheogen experiences in descending order:
1)Combo of oral DMT + smoked Bufotenine
2)Amanita (urine drank twice)
3)Mushrooms > Achuma 16"+cid(still need higher dose Achuma)> Cid (still need high dose)
4)Morning Glory-HBWR (+cumin, cinnamon aldehyde adducts) > Methyl chavicol (need more activators)
5)Salvia (need to try quid)

All readable matter in the above post is ficticious... any similarities to real life are purely coincidental.

Blessing.

lol, how cold does it get in winter? I think its nicer to work and not be homeless but thats just me. Pretty hard to get shrooms when you are homeless.

Tips #1: Ensure that you don't have a home to go to.

Tip #2: Do not acquire a home to go to.

That's all I have. I've never been homeless I don't know WTF I'm talking about. But I want to read other people's tips.

You'd be really surprised how easy it is.

Buddy of mine lived on a commune and he would put pasteurized cow shit in a field, inoculate it with a section of mycelium, and put a kiddy pool over it to make a large cake. That bulk grow was a main source of happiness for years and money as well.

so many homeless people are bad at being homeless people. A couple days ago I was at subway and a guy came down and sat next to me and my girlfriend asking for money. an employee asked him to leave, and he asks me "am I bothering you?" and I was like "yeah you are, so gtfo outta here!", then I kicked his butt on the way out and everyone there was LoLing like crzy

You don't have to lie to kick it scum bag.

You don't have a girlfriend, that was your 13 year old sister, and you didn't kick his ass you grabbed it, not too mention everyone was laughing at you not with you.

I've never been homeless in a city but spent the entire year last year in a tent while searching for work and trying to make my photography go somewhere.
I used every minute of free time I had while homeless, and I got a photo published by National Geographic and eventually found some work that didn't make me want to kill myself.

Only tips I can give for being homeless in rural area is:

Hide your camp site extremely well, even if it means you have to walk further. Cover your trails up after using them. If someone(including other homeless people) stumbles across your tent they tend to destroy them and anything you have there, I don't know why. They will also steal anything you have of value.

Never camp with or near other homeless people, they are typically either mentally ill or addicted to some substance, usually alcohol or pills.

You don't want to be carrying water for long distances, so camp somewhere near a water source either natural or man made.
This can be something as simple as a water spigot behind a store or public building like a library. In my case it was a spring. :awesomenod:

Never tell or hint anyone that you are homeless. They will assume you are an addict 100% of the time, you won't find work if you tell people you're homeless, people have no sympathy for your struggle.

Keep your site clean, and even if only plan on being there for a week or more, make it look nice, it will keep your spirits up.

Stay positive, few people can handle your situation and fewer can enjoy it.
Just be glad you get to experience it.

Homeless tips:

Be clean. It helps when talking to strangers.  No one is comfortable with someone who reeks like trash and is covered in filth coming up to them asking for money, it's clear the money won't help you because you are doing nothing to help yourself.

Be nice.  There is never a need to be bitter when you are homeless.  It's your fault/choice that you are in this predicament, your actions and decisions lead you there, and the kindness of others will lift you up. You reap what you sow, so fucking smile when you meet people.

Don't always ask people for money when you are down and out, sometimes what you need is companionship and someone to talk to.  Don't pigeon hole your adventure with "I need more money"

Lower your standards of what you will consume to live.  It's temporary.

If you have a vehicle, get a gas jug.  People are way way more likely to give you a little bit of gas at a pump than money, and you'd be surprised when you walk up clean and polite, how easy it is.

Prepare for climate depending on where you are. If you are headed to cali, don't go into death valley broke with half a tank.

Bring plastic bags for your shoes. An umbrella. Duct tape. A solid knife.

Trespassing into abandoned buildings is your friend if you let it be, it could also be your demise.

When you do get food don't over eat. Just eat til you aren't hungry anymore and ration.

Don't bum money and buy smokes and booze with it. Fuck you if you do. People need money to live, your addiction can wait.

places that are open to help you:

Truck stops for bathing
libraries to stay warm and entertained
College campuses are amazing.  If you just wait by the door smoking a cig or reading a book etc, someone will let you in.....free showers, free swimming pool, free gym.
Food pantries
Salvation armys
Churches

I'll add more later.

After getting to know and living with a group of squatters that overtook my downstairs house in Hillsboro one time, I really don't help the homeless crusty punk kids out anymore.  They'd come home with $150-$200 between five of them from panhandling and it'd be gone on booze, weed and junkfood by the end of the night.

I eventually kicked them the fuck out and forced them on the road.  One finally fell off a train.  Fuckers never paid rent, never tried to clean, trashed the place and when one fell off a train while they were hopping, I was like "whoops, guess he won't be squatting here again."

One of my dumbfuck roommates at the time let them crash at the house for a weekend and they stayed for a month, parked their shitty van in front of the house and broke it...

I don't either.

I help travelers out, people who were hit with hardships, people that decided to throw caution to the wind and experience.

If I can see you are wasted, or you are wearing a black flag shirt, peace.

One time I gave two crust punks a couple slim jims and some IPAS, rare form for me.  Dude cracks the beer and instantly spits it out, and does the exact same with the slim jim.  "These taste like shit".  I almost got out of my car and fucking smashed his face with the rest of my beers.

When I was traveling to travel, not going to festivals but camping in state parks and living in my van, I did it by choice.  I quit smoking cigarettes, and I quit drinking.  If they were offered to me I would take them, but I would never spend money on them.

I try to give food and clothing and clean water above all.

ahhhh being homeless... this thread is bringing back the memories...

ok so where do we start...

1. Dont listen to most of what Tmethyl said.. you are gonna wanna get a crew of scumbag friends to make the time go by better. (most people are not homeless because they wanna take pictures and get a better job. i congratulate you doing that tho, thats awesome)

2. You are gonna want to find a way to make some money. Flying a sign is a pussy way to do this unless you have no legs. If you have an old guy in your scumbag crew, you can get him to tell everyone hes a homeless vet. Keep in mind you never told them he was a military vet, hes a heroin Vet so you arent lying... if you dont wanna be a pussy, find a hustle. Pick up cans and recycle, rob people and sell their stuff, beat up other homeless people for their money, get in with your dealer and start dealing drugs yourself.

3. Find a safe spot where you wont be bothered. No one likes waking up to the cops at yer spot or to a group of skater kids bashing your head in with the trucks of their board cause you a low life (this happened to a friend)

which leads to this one...

4. Never stay alone when its avoidable. Its a sad sad world out there, make sure you dont skip step 1. it will keep you safer..

5.Here is where you gotta make a choice... do you wanna not be homeless one day or is this basically an early retirement from life... If you dont give a shit, start doing Heroin. it will numb the pain and make being homeless less bad.

6. Dig in the trash behind grocery stores for food... you will score some awesome stuff! and who wants to spend the money they have on food? that money should only be for a few things... Heroin, Meth, Alcohol, Weed and MAYBE pharms.

7.Get to a warm place... no one wants to be homeless in a frigid ass city. You are gonna wanna move to LA for the winter. so hop a train! its always a good time to risk losing a limb

8. get some experience of your own... i cant tell you everything...
mainly remember this... DONT BE A PUSSY! You got yourself here

thank you for your time

what hypocrisy.

also you have built your case on LIES.

first lie - "You don't have a girlfriend, that was your 13 year old sister, and you didn't kick his ass you grabbed it, not too mention everyone was laughing at you not with you."

second lie - you said that I said "I kick homeless people when they are down at subway in front of my girlfriend and groups of people"

probable 3rd lie - "One time I gave two crust punks a couple slim jims and some IPAS, rare form for me.  Dude cracks the beer and instantly spits it out, and does the exact same with the slim jim.  "These taste like shit".  I almost got out of my car and fucking smashed his face with the rest of my beers."

The fact you have to say "he started it" kinda moots your 2nd point.

I've not read any of the argument tho.

Tip: Wendy's will give you a free meal if you say you are homeless and can't afford a meal. I've even seen them let homeless people grab some sleep there too.

It was a homeless tip, not a tip for you.

I was just letting you know how that sounds. Any intelligent person could tell who starts a fight, you shouldn't care what unintelligent people think, and "he started it" sounds childish. It's never worth it to come off as a child.

So I'm either a scumbag or a liar?? This forum is messed up. you guys shouldnt be ganging up on me over something so small that caused so much joy. the homeless man was not hurt in the slightest! anyways, what the homeless man did was not right. you shouldnt pressure people to give you money like that while theyre eating. that was my point. but forget it. like I said this forum is messed up. This is my last post in this place.

:whathesaid:
Of course, this applies to mainly rural, wooded areas.  I'm a snowbird and try to stay in hawaii for as long as possible during the winter.  In order to affordably do this i found a pretty nice system where i have a hidden camp spot about a half mile into the woods near a residential neighborhood where i park my car (i buy a car when i get out there and sell it when i leave). The good thing about this neighborhood is that i can rotate where i park around the block and access my spot from either side in order to avoid suspicion from any of the residents.

Reading this alone makes you sound childish.

He wasn't in the right to sit down like that but it was very immature to kick him as he was leaving. I could understand if he wasn't moving, that would make me uncomfortable too... But adding injury to insult was completely uncalled for.

It's pretty sad he justifies it by "impressing" a bunch of strangers at subway......you know the healthy fast food joint, where the food is always fresh!  Those are upstanding citizens, how dare someone talk to someone in one of those establishments.

But everyone laughed, so if that guy tossed himself over a bridge afterwards, totally ok.

Homeless or not, keep your hands off me unless it's wanted.

Oh now I'm a child. that's great. I can't believe you can't see how cruel vandango was being when he verbally attacked me. but I guess that's what a child would say right guys?? unbelievable. And the homeless man was sitting in my girlfriend's seat!  But I guess I don't have a girlfriend, only a 13 yr old sister who grabs my butt? unbelievable.
Like I said, this is my last post for sure in this place.

@vandando, I told you I didn't really kick him, it was more of a love tap, he probably didnt even feel it. altho  the crowd at subway definitely got a kick out of it.

Every day is friday, and I always need a cup of coffee.

2 people stole my last 1000 bucks from me yesterday and the day before and it was all the cash I had.

I'm trying really hard to keep a level head.  I have about 2 weeks left before I go completely postal on people like mt cleverest.

Let some jock itch pos kick me when I sit next to him......he even lied and said the bum sat in his gfs seat, but his op says different:

These are the kind of homeless tips we need.  Not pack up with tweekers and junkies and get schwilly.

It's crazy how accepted traveling in europe on foot is, and here there's people that think it's funny to kick people when they are actually living.

There's a lot of ride share, couch surfing, farms, state parks and all kinds of other clean and amazing opportunities you can fall into on the road.  Every single minute you are at a fork.

I mean, kicking back and relaxing and getting messed up is great, but when you are traveling just to do that, I don't get it.

Keep your anus clean and take care of your feet.

Make friends with other homeless and street people.  Some of them will rob you but it still beats trying to make it on your own.  They will clue you into hot feeds and food pantries.  Only people I would recommend avoiding for the most part is homebums and freight hoppers.  They're ultra cliquey and mean.  Most travelling homeless are super nice though.

Get a hammock if you're in the woods, and a tarp, and some rope.  That's all you need to sleep unless it's super cold.  Take it down and stash it every day.

Pack light.  Get together everything you think you need, and throw out most of it.

Also couch surfing and wwoof is not being homeless.  If you're going to be a bum go full bum.  Drink, take drugs irresponsibly, put your trust in strangers who have nothing but problems to offer.  If you can manage life well enough to get a wwoof spot or convince some yuppie to let you crash on their couch, just go get a fucking job you're doing it wrong.

I've done it both ways.

I can't stand what happens to me post homeless if I don't really take care of myself.

I know so many people from the boards couches are pretty easy to come by.

It's very situational too.  I have dogs so I have to find indoor shelter more than half the time to keep them clean and healthy.

Hammocks > tents any day too

Yeah after a week on the street ain't nobody letting my drunk ass onto the couch.  They'd have to burn it afterwards.  I tried wwoof but nobody wanted to take me, which is fine, I'm all set with slave labor anyway.  Couldn't believe they wanted like resumes and shit, and the wwoof website is a POS in terms of organization and keeping listings up to date.

It's really really easy to get a job, you have to be kidding me.

I have 6 felonies, and when I clean myself up, tighten my resume a little bit, and put 10-20 apps in a day, I have a job by the end of the week.

There's hotels, telemarketing, landscaping, and kitchen work across the nation regardless of where you are. You just have to know how to look.

And if you live somewhere you can't live, why live there? ( I say this as I sit in ohio )

Not too mention you can work online if you take the time to do so.

But being homeless makes it tough to get your feet back without a roof.  Working when you can't really take a bath on the regular, and have all your gear can be tough. It's why so many people on the road end up working in the marijuana industry or under the table contracting.

Yeah that's true.  Also I don't really give credit to having a decent education and upbringing when I say it's easy.  People always say "oh the job market sucks," but the employee market kinda sucks too.

Every time I start a new job it seems like the intelligence of my co workers is less, and the turn over rate is greater.  I was only at my last job 14 months and aside from the GM's had the most tenure.  Every new person we hired you couldn't train. You'd show them how to do something, they'd look at you like you were retarded, and do it their own way.

It shouldn't take weeks to teach someone how to staple 3 papers together and put them in a folder.

Yeah because you probably feel superior to homeless people when they do perform a service to you. You feel above them so much so that you can only be generous to them if they do something for you so that you can look down upon them in pity.

if you work a skill less job you're basically homeless even when you do get promoted you won't be making any money
the best way to avoid homelessness is by getting another income in the house so they can pay the rent..

I never had less than 100$ when I was homeless, and I did indeed work hard for my paycheck.

Back in the day you could walk into the oregon woods and find big fucking burls of walnut or redwood and I'd just saw a large slice and drag it to the nearby carpenter. I'd make 100$ or so per burl. He made them into tables and I did find quite a lot of cyans through this wilderness business venture.

Do businesses actually do that? I've never seen them give food they're throwing away to anybody... for liability reasons, they usually don't, even if that food is going to be thrown in the garbage anyway. They don't want to be sued in case you get food poisoning or something.

living in the woods myself. gonna start treking to my spot in an hour or so.

fucking huge spiders back there and i saw some deep burrow holes too so there are mammals in there as well but idk.

ill post pics tommorow.

my best advice is to avoid getting addicted to anything. being homeless is hard enough.

Also avoid major cities unless you don't mind people. i hate people.
its easier to get food in the major cities but id rather have my privacy.

a tent> a shelter in my opinion but i can see why some would like the comforts over independence.

Appreciate it man. i've got my freedom and that's all i really need but if(when) i end up losing that you can write me letters n stuff..

People don't go hungry in this country. If they do it's by choice or abuse by a caretaker because there is plenty given away. I've never begged for money and i dont think i ever will. Not that you implied that.

Better than ever man.  Nothing wrong with begging, as long as you do it aggressively to people that resent your existence.

I mean it though.  Just never think nobody cares, it gets lonely out there.

this is fucking great and accurate for lots of street "kids" i've observed.

i just don't harbor that resentment towards "normal" folks. i chose to opt out and i don't blame anyone for that. i also just cant bring myself to beg because i dont really NEED to and am perfectly capable of working.

It is fun to watch though and i guess after some time the dirty looks do get to you but that's why i don't do the city thing(anymore) and don't talk to other homeless folks. i used to hang out with a pack of street folks though and they were very aggressive beggars. i dont miss it.

Unless someone saw me leave my camp they'd have no idea i lived outside. i also have family i can visit so that helps too.

Being off the heroin makes a world of difference as well.

im about to head out with my flashlight and a book for the night. ill take pics of my spot when i wake up.

Yeah, a week of min wage work can pay for a months living easily.
Begging means daily humiliation and shame, its way worse than just operating a cash register or washing dishes.

If my career were to stagnate, Id just work some shit job or another for a few weeks every once in awhile.
Looking forward to getting out and hanging my hammock up, so tired of living in a concrete box surrounded by cars, buildings and people on every side.

Fucked up my plans for getting out earlier in the year, should have stayed out with my friends at least

in bumble fuck maybe

9.25/hour vs a 1000-1200$ rent
you'd be lucky to even cover it after a month
i see rooms go for 800$ around here
and it's only getting higher
soon the people who went to college are going to be making 7 bucks more then the highschool drop outs
raising the min wage is just a bandaid for out of control housing prices

Homeless people dont pay rent

Wages depend on your trade, experience etc, college doesnt open every door
