With the recent derailment of the official sf bay area thread, we need a reset button. Please post photos of your SF bay area or surrounding area finds. Let's keep this a positive space where we discuss active mushrooms.

Actually, Sirtalis, it's principally you who's been desperately trying to derail and ruin the Bay area thread.
BTW, if I'm not mistaken, aren't those old photos?

Ive found them through February, but it all depends on the weather. I think end of January is when it really starts to dwindle.

Depends on the city. Some places in the bay even get snow at higher elevations. Usually melts within a day or two. For the most part we don't have to worry about freezes, just a lack of rain.

Has anyone had success looking near business buildings? I'm finding the most woodchips near apartment complexes. Seems like the larger the apartment complex the more they care about irrigation.

New pins popping up at my first cyan find of the year. Just in time to get a huge boost from the incoming storm!

Near businesses can be good because of sprinkler systems and good microclimates created by landscaping and building walls. The only problem I run into in these spots is the use of pesticides. In the pnw there is lots of habitat restoration and parks that don't use pesticides. This makes it easy to choose where you'd like to actually harvest from if that's your bag. A good way to tell if there have been pesticides applied is to look for weeds(no weeds is usually a bad sign) or contact the city to see if anything has been used in a particular park etc.

I also notice of all mushrooms that are slug free and critters have not eatn, =pesticides. All my locations in N. Cal are sprayed. With the exception of this one hillside. It's so hilly, no one can even take the time to spray it. Not economical.
Also, it's infested with slugs. So that's my head stash.
I give the pesticides shrooms warning to every one.
No one seems to care a whole lot.

After spending last two day driving all over looking around, I just found one lone alleni in some overgrown grassy woodchips that are right across the road from where I've been staying with my mom. Go figure. Cap shaped like a shamrock to signify my change of luck. Tried to upload pic but having issues. Sez file type not recognized even though its jpeg....I'll post once I figure out the problem. Anyhow, at least I got a token consolation prize. There was one pin I left behind. I have a feeling that theres other fruitings out there in the bay in tall grass which stays moist all day. They are just real hard ro find and usually grow more dispersed, although I have found grassy fruitings in Seattle which were significant. Overgrown woodchips. In addition to difficulty finding, they are usually much more fragile and come apart often when you pick em. The only reason I spotted this one was because it was fruiting right where a pine branch had made an opening in the grass. Rooting around in the surrounding area only resulted in the one pin...

WhyDidIDoThis...question I have had for yrs is do the slugs get high as fuck? In seattle with uts greater moisture it wasnt uncommon to find patches decimated by armies if tiny slugs. For whatever reason they target the gills first, then the rest of the cap. The bigger question beyond "are the slugs high" is would the slugs get YOU high?? If the indoles are not broken down by the slug metabolism, then it would stand to reason that the little mushroom slugs would have them highly concentrated in their bodies....i never had the nerve to try it, and never knew anyone to ask. Maybe shroom slugs are the fucking holy grail of tryptamine psycadelics, just waiting for a daring psyconaut to take a taste. If one of the resident science geeks can answer this or one of the daring wackjobs wants to try it, this question has been knocking around my head for 25 yrs at least. This random thought bounced around my head for hours at a time while I wandered around staring at the ground...

Don't know. Seeing as they aren't a mammal they may not have the proper chemistry and metabolizem to get altered states of consciousness. Maybe the do. Maybe those Psilocybes taste like desert to them. Whose to say.
Might try getting a buddy to eat a few slugs.
But that would be more cruel than hacking mushroom limbs off the earth.

Yep.
i wonder the dry weight of psilicin though? Maybe it's better than lemon tek. I've always been curious if that is what it takes to get a patch to flush, or at least spread.
