its not trich spores afaik, trich is used in south america to avoid coffee bean plants to rot in the high RH environment.
it keeps mold etc away from roots. we all know trich is fuckin aggro against mushroom myc of all sorts.

I'm wondering how these companies actually add trich to coir? Is there a market for trich spores or what?

Yes there are a lot of companies that even breed and cross breed trich. Its the easy way to destroy white molds which damage roots. Look up the common banana how it is cloned out . one white mold learns to eat that plant we lost them all without trich.

I think I'll avoid added Trich. Sounds like you would spread it around just working with the stuff. For Canadians, Home Hardware carries a brand with no added Trich.

A brick of coir measures roughly 2" x 4" x 10". Get them at the pet store in the reptile section.

You know.... You could always just PC the coir.

Hydro shops do sell big blocks of coir with the trich already added.
As stated above, it's for the plant roots.  I remember seeing a video of Jorge Cervatez throwing a cup of trich straight into his MMJ soil mix.

But, if you're limited to this type of coir (trich added) then I recommend you PC the coir prior to spawning.  There are plenty of sources (via search function) which prove sterilized coir does just as well as pasteurized coir.

If you're doing the bucket tek, you're already partially sterilizing your substrate anyway.

Now I will add, if you plan to add any kind of amendments to your substrate like coffee, bran, flax.... You'll need to do a proper pasteurization.

But consider sterilizing.  I've done it.  It works.

if you dont wanna drag trich into your house you better get ready to stay indoors for the rest of your life. soil is riddled with trich no matter where you go.

pasteurization kills trich too. easily.

i just made a few tubs with coir from the hydro store.
bucket tek with boiling water of course.

Imo 100% yes. I bought 25 lbs from a grow store in Denver and grew nothing but mold for like 8 months.

In the description of my coir brick (known german brand) it's written:

"Slightly fertilized".

Could this be a problem if I just use the bucket tek?
