I understand pulling some almost mature fruits before a long cold/dry period but why pull pins that small? Just for the stem butt? This is why it's better to go from spore, less invasive on the existing patch. What happened to you watering patches?

Not to mention, I think that this is exactly the kind if thing that needs to stop here on Shroomery. I mean, if someone asked such questions genuinely wanting to know, I wouldn't mind at all. But I can just feel the evil intent behind this guy's words. Shroomery shouldn't be a place for people to act so unnaturally.

I actually asked because you yourself were watering and covering patches last year during dry spells. No evil intent so chill and let's be civil here.

Also David - dont take this all so personal. We're just a bunch of knuckleheads with a common interest and bunch of free opinions. For what its worth, your knowledge and opinions seem to be more valid than most. Don't let haters get to you. You're the one out there harvesting and posting sweet pics that make them all jelly all season.

David can only tell the difference between a Psilocybe and non-Psilocybe. He's already ignored everyone that can teach him anything new. Its pretty unshroomy that he no goes around spreading misinfo while pretending no one can correct him.

Haha. True. He seems a little sensitive. I was mostly telling him to lighten up and take joy in the fact that he has patches to care for. We all gotta make the best choices based on the knowledge we have and all we can do try to share that knowledge and keep an open mind. I was a serious harvester for 25 yrs and although I was damn good at finding our little friends, I know diddly-squat about other species, although I find them beautiful and interesting. I was just too busy finding psilocybes. Alas, I live in LA now, but am up in the Bay right now looking around. Wish me luck.

If he overharvests a patch to the point that it has any impact, he's the one that pays the consequences. The fact that he does his part to try and inoculate the world means that in the big picture, hes helping the cause, even if he rubs you all the wrong way. I guess thats why mushroom picking is a solitary pursuit. We dont have to all get along and ultimately we make our own choices.

Its not much of a cause and Psilocybe species are not really relevant to the problem. The problem is that people come here to learn, identify and have their finds identified. Following Reishi around and cleaning up after his misinfo is not my idea of fun or beneficial. It wouldn't be so bad if he was willing to improve, but instead he had a big fit about how everyone is jealous of him and ignored most of the regulars.

This patch is in a public spot so it isn't his. Other hunters could have had the opportunity to find it as well. If it were a patch he made or it was on private property I wold think of it differently.

So what course of action should we take? Ignore his ignorance and let him spread misinformation?

I gotcha. In my opinion its all kindof whatever. We should all just get out and find some actives and not be dicks. Bums me out to see him or anyone else get their panties in a bunch. I was never on this sight when I was a serious harvester. Its only now that I live in LA that I live vicariously and look at the mushroom porn. I'm gonna quit typing and look at the ground. Happy hunting. Be nice. Be happy for each other and be open to advice. These principles will serve you wherever you use them.

Unfortunately he started this thread so ignoring him isn't an option if people want to see/be a part of this community. My guess is he's mentally ill, and we need to be sensitive to that, but it's difficult with such a caustic person. If you're lucky, maybe he'll ignore you. That worked out for a few of us!

Sad day. At least you didn't get snow this morning like we did in the PNW. It's mostly melted by now.

I've spent (wasted?) thousands of hrs of my life and harvested in the neighborhood of 150 dried lbs (craziest season was 13 lbs), but still can learn a lot from others on this sight who have lots more knowledge about technical and scientific aspects. Most of what I know I learned from experience and the basic texts, and so I'm always open to new information. The guy who knows everything will never learn a thing.

If there's one thing I've learned at the Shroomery, it's of the surpirsing rate of betas among people these days.

Species found in the Bay area:
P. allenii, P. cyanescens, P. ovoideocystidiata, P. stuntzii, P. azurescens

Anyone found actives in GGP?  Looks like those new woodchips they put down are cedar.  Lots of disappointed hippies will be scouring the park this weekend.

At the rate of one page of jealous attacks per find, this thread's gunna end up huge.
