It depends what your major is. Community college transferring into a 4 year state school is the way go. My undergrad was $1700/semester.

What are some things you can teach yourself and use to make money?

Take the training necessary for your work.
As a musician Ive taken private lessons from a few tutors over the years, I abhor the institutionalization of this field, even tutoring is mostly done inadequately and for the wrong reasons (an hour once a week for $50 is a disgraceful manner to operate). Training is necessary though and I have more lessons to come.
Anyways, decide what you want to do and figure out what kind of training / certification will be required. Take a couple of years figuring out what you want to do if necessary, youll be in that field for decades.

whatever you wish to pursue unless you don't have the technological means available. For me i have made money from music and computer programming... both learned for free on the internet. Knowledge just for the sake of knowledge is never a bad idea anyways.
