Trich dust - How do I uncontaminate?

Hey, I accidentally opened a bag of stones to discover by horror bluish dust escaping. I switched on the kitchen exhaust on Max, but was wondering what to do with the rest of the house, as I have pans growing. Is there a way to protect them and will the level of mould spores return to normal background levels? Thanks guys.

Hey, the two things I can recommend are;
1. Getting an air draft going in your house, to speed up the processes of clearing up the air inside. So if you have windows / doors that are opposite each other(like one on the north end and another on the south end), open em up so air has a way in and a way out.
2. Have a HEPA air filter running around your pans. If there are mold spores floating around, they'll get filtered out. Get the True HEPA filters, the ones that filter particles up to .3 microns.
Hope that helps!

Thanks for that . I got the Laminar flow hood in front of the pans going. I assume they must have some tolerance to trich, as if every mould spore germinated, then nothing would grow without of a completely sterile environment?

No prob, the flow hood should do the trick if they're in there. Mycelium gets better at fighting off contams once its fully colonized and fruiting.
Btw are you using the flow hood workspace as your fruiting chamber?

No. Using a shotgun fruiting chamber, so it is really all exposed with plenty of holes in it. Would wiping all the Chambers with alcohol be overkill or do you think it would reach normal background spore levels?
The flow hood is just a portable one I made mostly for agar and jar work. Cheers.

Gotcha. Don't think wiping them down would affect anything that's airborne, since you'll just be wiping off whatevers on the chambers already, not what could get to it - though it probably won't hurt!
If you keep the air in your home still for a few hours(no a/c..etc), it should go back to normal. I guess in theory you could go around spraying mist (water) around your house to ensure that whatever's airborn hits the floor? Then just clean the floor. That should do the trick!

Thanks for that. Pretty much wiped the whole kitchen with ethanol and did the floor. If there are a few stray spores left on the truffles that are drying in the dehydrator, hopefully this won't be circulating too many more? I washed those stones with water before putting in the dehydrator, as they came from that bag. The bag I treated as asbestos waste and wet it down to prevent further contamination before putting in a bucket, cling wrap over the top and will give to Dad for the compost bin...

I'm just going to leave this here....

Are examples of contaminations I had, the 2nd one I had forgotten in my basement for over half a year, with the furnace kicking on every 20 minutes. I had many many contaminations in my days, and I've never felt compelled to clean my room. I got really fuckin anal with agar, as well as spawn, and had these while I was in this situation..

I've never bleached my room. Just a few vacuums. I've never cleaned a few of my FC tubs either. And they had lots of trichoderma..
These bacterial AF trays were fruited in the open air of my basement which had tubs of trichoderma nearby that I forgot about

You spawn in open air, which is covered in contamination spores anyways, fruiting will NEVER be sterile. The thing you need is a clean af established network, that can easily keep contaminations at bay. If you have trich germinating early, it's most likely because bacteria in your spawn has weakened your myceliums "immune system". Bacteria is pretty much always needed for trichoderma to germinate on mycelium.
Weak mycelium contaminates. Kinda obvious really. That means you need stronger mycelium. Which is why people are figuring out your spawn cleanliness, starting with inoculation.
I've also grown pans while this shit was happening. Just saying. When a huge sporeload is introduced you have to be anal AF with your spawn, maybe trying to reduce the spore load would make it easier, but my approach has always been to have impeccable spawn. With it, my house has not hindered me yet.

Thanks for that. My pans have a 1:2, spawn: poo ratio if that helps. I appreciate your optimism too. Inside the bag it almost looked similar to regular mycelium until I opened it!

I had trich recently (threw it out after a few days). My cubes going right now have not contaminated and all I did was air out my house.

That + 2 others were forgotten in my basement for 6+ months when I moved everything upstairs. One day I needed more tubs and found them. It was so nasty. Covered in mushroom flies/mites too

Every so often I'll set one of these off in my grow area just to help keep things in check

I just don't like the idea of spraying shit like that around my house. I'd be hacking a lung out.

Haven't tried the tinny, but like asbestos, I would imagine independent of the amount used, mould spores would always return to their ambient background levels given a few days, but don't quote me on it?
