Relatively noobie here. Need help with ID on two species from the PNW
    #23895452 - 12/04/16 10:55 PM (7 years, 1 month ago)

I am in the Seattle area. I went for a pick today. Both varieties that we harvested were from the same habitat, namely a mulch matrix with alders interspersed in a wooded area. On the side of a park trail.

I am fairly confident that we found a roughly a dozen p. cyanescens. I laid out a couple caps for prints but they have yet to fall.

I am more than a little suspicious of our second variety. My friend claims are psilocybe pelliculosa, but from what I can gleam off of the interweb, there are roughly 400 look alike species.

Even if they are the pelliculosa, are they even worth experimenting with? I hear that psilocybe conifer a relatively weak variety, more prone to stomach aches than enlightenment...

Heres a fresh cluster

A couple of spore prints

Your first ones are certainly P. cyanescens.  Good find!  The second ones are a Psathyrella species and not worth keeping.

I agree. First ones are for sure P. Cyanescens, great find. Unfortunately the second is unfortunately not pelliculosa.. Overall good job!
