I recently had the same problem with what I believe were shoreflies and solved it by placing cups of vinegar with a few drops of dish soap in them.
Even plain water with a few drops of dish soap works better than doing nothing.
Did you identify the flies? Are they fungus gnats?

Yeah what the guy above me said. I use apple cider vinegar and dish soap. Also seems gnats really love beer. If you wanna kill them humanely, use beer. Get them drunk as shit while they're drowning. Seems like the best way to go out for a gnat.

Also on a plate near your tub cut up a potato in slice and put it right neat to tub. The flys like laying eggs into tubs but prefer the potato. Replace every few days

Never heard this, good advice, thanks .)
Do you know why they prefer to lay eggs in potato? Do they prefer starch to decomposing organic matter?

This shit worked wonders for me also to kill any eggs or stragglers, just don't spray fruits or pins.

In horticulture diatomaceous earth can be put on top of pots, similar to how we case our trays or tubs. The diatomaceous earth has sharp edges (this stuff is VERY SMALL, so we cant get hurt on it, safe to humans, even in food!) which cuts and kills larva on its way down into the soil. So they never make it down into the soil to grow. It stops the life cycle of them. Now I do NOT know if anyone has ever incorporated this into a mushroom grow, but this could be some useful information.

its pyrethrum and it is toxic to insects. It comes from the chrysanthemum flower. We may use synthesized pyrethrum but it was still originally found in the flower. It fucks up the insects nerve system, basically giving them Parkinson's disease.

" Exposure to pyrethrum in high levels in humans may cause symptoms such as asthmatic breathing, sneezing, nasal stuffiness, headache, nausea, loss of coordination, tremors, convulsions, facial flushing, and swelling."

OK then under normal conditions and use it is only toxic to insects. Guess when concentrated it would be bad to us as well. many things are when concentrated. I'm guessing it would only be harmful to humans if sprayed in a small room with little to no ventilation, and a fair amount. It is approved for organic farming and does not hurt us if we ingest food that was sprayed with it. NOW there may be an "x" number of days you have to wait before eating that food to allow the compound to break down. Different chemicals (pesticides) take different amounts of time to break down to be safe for us. The length o time is usually on the package. I just know that this is among the safest pesticides we can use. I doubt organic neem oil would be very good to the mushrooms, would probably smother the mycelium, so that is out.

Any chemical absorbed by the mushroom if any is at all would be lost during the dehydrator run I would think. I have not had any adverse reactions whatsoever when I had to use it

I googled the LD50 for pyrethins (group containing pyrethrum). found this for Acute toxicity.
The lowest lethal oral dose of pyrethrum is 750 mg/kg for children and 1,000 mg/kg for adults
That's a lot when you think about how many 500mg headache pills this would be.
I'm at about 108Kg so I would have to take 1/10th of a Kg of it to have acute toxicity.
