Should I join the Navy or pursue my dream as a conscious rapper?

Okay so I'm being tugged in two separate directions..
I absolutely love Hip-Hop, and not to be egotistical but I think I could make it as a lyricist. My newfound friend who I met in our Arabic class has been making beats for, 7 or so years, now? Something like that. Anyways, long story short, he knows what he's doing and I've been rapping for maybe 2 or so years now. We have a strong, spiritual connection and are about to make our first song together, maybe even a music video for it. I definitely consider myself above average at it, and most of all, it's what I love. I'm a writer, a very creative person and I adore the landscape in which I can create something of immense value not only to myself, but to the whole of humanity in which I perceive.
Now, I've also been in the process of joining the Navy. I have to retake my ASVAB in less than a week. I want to travel the world but I'm not so sure whether or not it's the correct route to sail with how the future is unfolding for the US. Also, not so necessarily sure if I can secure a good, high-paying job within the organization either. I know it would toughen me up, make me more of a man per se and get me to experience another side of the universe that's been previously unseen.
I also could be at a university next year which was the original plan. Evidently, I could create music while at it.
Thank you to all those who read, all help (and more notably your perspective on the situation) is greatly, deeply appreciated.

Do both if you have your mind set on either. There is no reason you couldn't drop an album or two while you're in. Then you could gauge your future in music when you actually have a library of music behind you rather than waiting on the maybes of songs that don't exist yet.
You and your buddy producing the beats can work on stuff online easily. Just get yourself a nice laptop, an audio interface, a decent microphone and an acoustic foam box for noise interference and you can record tracks anywhere.

If you want to make music then make music. If you need help to do what you wanna do though then you're not as dedicated as you should be. I'm being serious. It's not a hobby.

I'd say go for both..
If u wanted to make a career out of hip hop tho understand that ure gonna have to give it ur all, and that means giving up on anything else u had in mind, like the navy, family, etc.. ure either all in or all out.. U might also have to bum it for a few years..
Def ain't easy man.. but def ain't impossible..

Why not practice unconscious rapping?

I know of several musicians that were in the military, Hendrix is one I can think of off the top of my head.
You could maybe use the Navy job to build on your music career, this way you have something realistic to fall back on just in case you're not considered the next Kanye, you know do music on the side until you start to show promise there, then and only then you can turn your back on your Navy stuff if you want.

Lol yea for real
Fuck the military.
Dont go to the navy OP.
Do whatever the fuck you want besides going to the military. You are a governmemt pawn. Get ptsd, limbs blown off, for what?
You would learn more hitchhiking across the country then you ever would being brainwashed by the military and be property of the government.
Edit: And why are those your only two options? There are so many other things you can do while still being able to make music and money. You think you can work on your music at a bootcamp with people screaming in your face all the time? Or get involved with other bros in the military who think they are rappers that will rap about the military. Shit would be gay as hell.
Dont go to the military OP.

You don't have to be involved in battle, you can do numerous things which can forge you a decent career, it's not all brainwashed tools that join the military, sure the ones that believe everything they see on the TV and go off to war because of that are questionable, but some people see the military as a way to secure a future, I see nothing wrong with that.
I don't know how old OP is, and I am not asking, but it would be wise to not shoot his ideas down, OP could be between a rock and hard place, and if that's what's happening, then I think OP should pursue a career in the military, and work on their music on the side, then if they put out a mixtape or two and get some recognition, they can then pursue music full time, but OP is going to have to cover expenses such as studio time, or equipment to work from home with, and that all costs money.
I think it's good to never give up on your dreams, but you also have to be realistic, and have a stable source of income to support yourself on while you try to fulfill your dreams.

Be a conscious rapper!
Cause wouldnt be awesome to be a Shroomery member and an Underground rapper?
I used to be real big into Hip Hop: Illogic, Living Legends, Atmosphere, Hieroglyphics, Aesop Rock, Immortal Technique, Vast Aire, all those guys are awesome!
My best friend is an underground rapper. Not sure how famous he is, likely does small gigs.
But if u work hard and have a unique, exclusive style thats done well, i believe u can go big.
Plus, i can see your shows and throw u bags of shrooms at u on stage

Or he could join the Navy for 4 years, get a 20-40 thousand dollar bonus for joining if he's wise about it, do his 4 years while writing a few books worth of lyrics, get his albums going while getting a solid paycheck and make lots of music while he's at sea for months on end doing jack squat. Get out after 4 years with a lot of money saved up, start a record label with those funds while working as a nuclear operator or whatever outside of the military making bank, and take all that work saved up and release studio quality albums that get people's heads turning.
Music is not a full time job if you're still in the planning stages and don't even have a song recorded yet. He can do both with ease, it's not like he can't think of lyrics in his free time and ask his friend to work on a beat for a month to give him.
