Blewits? (Clitocybe nuda) ID Confirmation * 1
    #23894104 - 12/04/16 02:18 PM (7 years, 1 month ago)

The cap color on these has thrown me off a bit and so just to be safe I'm looking for additional opinions before preparing these. The lighting in my home brings out more purple in the pictures but these are more grey/brown than purple to me in outdoor lighting.

As an aside, has anyone had experience drying or using dried blewits?  I find these in large amounts and preservation would be helpful in the future.

Habitat: Under mixed oak/tanoak/madrone.  Northern CA mountains.

Gills: Light purple gills, attached and fairly tightly packed.

Stem: About half an inch to an inch in diameter, variable length, not more than 3 inches in the longest before trimming.  Pale white/cream to purple with a brownish staining "stringy" interior.  Most solid/stringy but one with some hollowness.  Approximately the same width across the entire length.

Cap: Two and a half to five inches or so in diameter.  Pale brown/tawny gold with a purplish tinge.  The edges roll over in younger specimens but unfurl to a flat to wavy plane.  Smooth when dry, slightly moist but not sticky when wet.

Spore print color: Pale cream/peach.

Bruising: None, stems may bruise slightly brown where cut or with age.

Other information: Has that sweet blewit odor.  Grew in a few largish patches spaced throughout the area.  Didn't get a picture but obvious white-purple mycelium at the base of the stem.
