Ulbricht was convicted of money laundering, computer hacking, conspiracy to traffic fraudulent identity documents, and conspiracy to traffic narcotics in February 2015.[3] He is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
all of that sounds like he made an online place called the Silk Road, where users could sell and buy things on the black market. of course the feds would try to pin that stuff on him anyway as a twisting of what the real definitions are.
he doesn't deserve life^^

Supposedly.
I do not believe it for a second.
2 of the undercover detectives have subsequently been arrested and sentenced for stealing $$$ while investigating Ross/SR.
https://www.wired.com/2016/11/ross-ulbrichts-lawyers-point-another-corrupt-agent-silk-road-case/
"The revelation follows the convictions last year of two Silk Road investigators: a Secret Service agent and a Drug Enforcement Administration agent who used pseudonyms to steal bitcoins from the site, attempted to extort money from Ulbricht, and also sold him law enforcement information. As Ulbricht’s lawyers continue to appeal their client’s conviction on charges including narcotics trafficking and money laundering—as well as the life sentence he received—the defense cites the signs of a third rogue agent with potential access to evidence as an indication that Ulbricht’s trial was flawed and unjust."

He's the wrong person to be held up as someone unfairly prosecuted. There are plenty of people in jail on trumped up drug charges. This guy ran a marketplace where you could by and sell illegal military weapons and jugs about anything else that has been banned.
He's not some guy who got caught up in dealing and got over his head. He made a decision to exploit the black market created by drug laws and other laws banning certain merchandise. He's not a victim of these laws. He used them to enrich himself.

Even if I believed the people who were fabricating evidence against him, he doesn't deserve the sentence he got. He is a political prisoner.
When does this end? Tonight?

I'm pretty sure that the money that was stolen was out of a bitcoin wallet as well, IIRC. good to hear that those crooked cops got what was coming though.

I gave him my whiskey fund for the rest of the week and proud to have done so. I'd encourage everyone to give what they can because this is a good cause.

Just want to give this a quick bump before I go to bed. I can't emphasize how important I think this is, and I've never bought anything off a DNM. I hope anyone who cares about freedom on the internet and in US policy in general will step up and chip in any amount. This is someone who has contributed to freedom online and in p2p trading, so if you ever have had an issue with the current economic system or benefit from the work he has done, please consider donating to Ross's legal fund.

maybe you missed it, but several people aren't buying the feds' story that he did so considering two of them were arrested for being crooked cops... there's also the bit where digital evidence in cases like these is easily tampered or fabricated and hard to prove

There is a really good documentary out there called deep web or darknet about ross and how he was framed.
They show that the FBI knew of at least 3 people who used the dreadpirateroberts screen name on the silk road and that he was only 1 of them, and even though they knew this was a fact, they still dismissed it from being used in the case.
It basically shows how the FBI was so dead set on blaming someone that they completely ignored evidence for his innocence in order to get a conviction. Really slimy shit.
His whole thing was about making drug transactions safer and taking the power out of the hands of street thugs

He also created Good Wagon Books in Austin Tx before making the silk road.
Ya, he really seems like a cold blooded killer

As far as I'm aware there's no evidence whatsoever that the "hits" ever actually took place, and I didn't think that our Justice system was in the habit of handing down life sentences for thoughts. That is, if he even actually did it.
He deserves an appeal at the very least.
