Different looking mycelium on casing
    #23892997 - 12/04/16 06:44 AM (7 years, 2 months ago)

Hey everyone I was just hoping some one could give me an idea of what this is growing on my casing?! It lookes like a type of mycelium but I don't think it is p. Cubensis due to how corny and how fast it is growing. Popped up overnight, not light and fluffy like other sections.

If I can have any help before I try and remove it that would great!

Does it grow out then kinda disappear?

Ok, did you add anything to the casing, if not, do you have the packaging?

Looks like a root system. Have you tried pulling any off of the casing? What kind of casing was it?

It was a kit i purchased online so I'm not sure of the casing but I'm pretty sure it was Pete. It also came with a small vile of casing starter that I had to mix in. (I did so without ever placing hands in the bag)

Just got home and checked to see it's progress and it looks like it's all but shrivels up and disappeared! I hope it wasn't anything to be concerned about but I'll keep an eye on it for now and let you know!

It's actually mycelium. I've seen this happen due to chemicals and chemical producing aggressive bacteria.
There is a possibility of too much vitamin's or protein's, some bacteria produce vitamins.

Anyhow, the mycelium kinda moves, going forward, and recycling cells.

Which is why I asked if it disappeared as it grew out

Thanks for the info, do you think it will have any effect on the batch? It has been cased for about a week now and I'm only seeing mycelium growth on the outside edge, I'm hoping this is normal and will eventually spread through the casing.

No unfortunately it wont, sorry. It will avoid it though, unless you can change it somehow.
Take no offense but avoid kits, and whatever was added may have caused it.

If you intend to salvage that I'd remove the added casing.

Ask or look around for a quick replacement.
