Late season Michigan find???
    #23893305 - 12/04/16 09:56 AM (7 years, 1 month ago)

Habitat:I found these in Ann arbor MI. I'm from Seattle, so I know several species from there. However being a hunter couldn't help but look. So I could use some help. These are found 12-3-16. My bday. they grew under evergreen in a thick grassy area. Looks like some are decaying already. They didn't appear to grow exclusively on dead wood but some did. Most were just in the grass.

Gills: rusty orange/brown to cinnamon colored. Younger ones are yellowish turning darker with age or post the first freeze. These have gills, non attached,  very close together to crowded.

Stem: short thick roughly 1/4 inch to half inch on larger specimens. The tallest was maybe 4-5 inches. Most are under 2-3 inches. Hollow inside, fiber like. It's thick with a larger base at the bottom but nothing like the amanita family. Same color as the cap with spots of red, blue, green and perhaps black or purple. Diameter roughly 1/4 inch. Texture is smooth and silk to the touch.

Cap:some large others small. Largest roughly 5 inches in diameter. Most are 2-4 inches in diameter. Color is red, brownish orange. Spherical cap with wazy edges. Convex dome. Texture of the cap is rough and grain like skin where darker 'spots'are. Rough to touch but not like sandpaper.

Spore print color: orange/brown cinnamon.

Bruising:shows some colors unsure how much is bruising or if that's the species.

Other information:some will retain the veil on the stipe but not all. Scent is pleasant but I love the smell of all shrooms.

Thanks for any help,

NYX
