Can you feel changes in blood pressure?
    #23892026 - 12/03/16 08:52 PM (7 years, 1 month ago)

I can. If I go from standing to sitting, or sitting to standing, or lean over, or crouch down from a while then get up and walk, I can feel anything from light-headedness to head pressure to some mix of both

Do you feel this too? Am I just out of shape or what?

If I've been exercising all day and am in a really active mood then I don't notice the head feelings, but if I'm lazy and inactive then I always notice.

I'm not usually dehydrated and drink 2-4 liters of water a day which is more than enough. I guess i'm just outta shape and it's time for me to start hitting the gym

You gotta take a big bong rip, and then stand up real quick.

You have a sinus infection that may be affecting your inner ear (balance) as well -- If you take BP meds you will get light headed when you stand quickly because the meds prevent your BP to adjust quickly (normally). Stop eating carbs and take a walk every day. Be happy.

Or when youre sleeping with the widow open but have some thickass blankets and your face is so cold but youe body is so warm and you feel amazing all night and have great dreams until you get out of bed because you have to take a piss and its cold as shit so you go to the bathroom and its still cold but then you come back to bed and it feels amazing because the blankets are still warm but then you start to wonder if theres a little bit of pee in your underwear because you forgot to blot your tip and then you canr sleep because youre thinking about the drops of piss in your underwear so you get out of bed to get a new pair but then its cold again and then the underwear are cold too because they were in a drawer in a room with the window open

I doubt i've had a non-painful sinus infection for this long

Blood pressure is your body adjusting to itself in space and its stressors. There is nothing wrong with high or low blood pressure. It is a sign from your body and shouldn't be trrated with drugs but a healthy diet and lifestyle.

The medical system is a fraud. Fuck the illuminati too. And you might have cancer.

i get light headed easily too. If i lay down and stand up, i get the twinkling light stars and slight dizzyness. Almost like a free 5 second high! hell yah :yesnod:

Exercise mkaes blood pressure really damn obvious, can feel the blood pumping thru my viens. Grrrr!

at rest, or doing small thangs, i dont feel the pressure. Sometimes i check my pressure (and pulse) by putting a finger to my neck.

I get crazy high blood pressure spikes. Sometimes I can hear it "whooshing" in my ears. And it took me a long time to realize it was one thing that was making me feel so bad at random times in the day and feeding my anxiety issues.

You cannot OP. There is the reason why they call it the silent killer. I wont get into all the science behind it but, think of high blood pressure attacking your arteries. The higher it is, the more "pressure" is put on the arteries which is damaging. I have heard young people with really high. Then, there is the danger zone. Many health places have the little machine you can use to check it.

I'm glad I have found something we can agree on again.

Yeah in pretty much any store with a pharmacy there are blood pressure machines. THat was how I first figured out my weird generally not feeling good problem was related to high blood pressure. I think I may have the picture somewhere still. Oh yay I do.

I took a picture to show my doctor (and I suggest you do the same if you get a high reading.) They say occasional spikes aren't bad but alot of them are stupid enough to think that because you don't get a high reading at that particular visit that you aren't having frequent high blood pressure issues. I do. They think it's stress, and in large part it is... it's part of why I'm on meds right now, they want to help "stabilize" my stress level to figure out what's up with my blood pressure.

Orthostatic hypotension. It's normal. It's not really a change in blood pressure, just when you stand up your body has to put more effort to counter the effect of gravity to maintain blood flow to the brain.

But if it keeps  happening one should consult a doc (maybe). I'm not an officially licensed RN yet, and I would tell someone who asked me for advice the same thing, they teach us to do that just in case you give advice and it turns out negatively for the person asking. So I was just suggesting something. Interesting to read all the responses from people on this subject though.

Generally not in the way you described it, but yes. If I get really pissed off I can feel my heartbeat throughout my body and I'll get a tingly/prickly sensation (a lot like when your leg is asleep or something).

I got so drunk two nights ago that for almost all of yesterday, I thought I had alcohol poisoning. I'll spare you the details but, I had been sitting on my friends toilet, dry heaving and half dead for like 4 hours straight. At one point, I stood straight up and my entire body got that tingly feeling that you get when a part of your body falls asleep and starts to wake up. It was extremely uncomfortable, it hurt, and it felt like my blood was poison. I could feel it reach parts of my body and it'd hurt and feel extremely weird. I was also dehydrated cause I couldn't hold anything down.

Orthostatic hypotension or some other bullshit?

Shouldn't have gone for that second wine cooler.

I think technically you guys are feeling the blood rush out of your head upon standing as opposed to feeling low blood pressure.  This could be caused by a number of things including low BP, vasodilation, and I imagine low red blood cell count too.

I shouldn't have drank beer before liquor. Never felt sicker.

If you're in tune with your body, you can feel changes in blood pressure, even if you're not in that great of health you should be able to feel the changes.

Thats bullshit. Your blood pressure changes throughout the day. Most people's BP in the morning is 20/15 higher in the morning than in the afternoon. Until you get physical symptoms at the extreme ends, you are completely unaware of your actual BP.

Unless you're actually confirming these changes you sense, how do you even know you're right. Are you checking your BP that often?

What is the light-headness or pressure I feel in my head, if not blood pressure changes?

That's not really a systemic change in your blood pressure, it's just a adjustment to the distribution of blood to your head. When you stand up, changes are required to valves and arteries in your chest and neck to counteract the effect of gravity to maintain the same blood pressure. Sometimes it takes a few seconds to make these changes and readjust to the body's position.

:thatsinteresting: Yeah getting high blood pressure might fix that, but I think a better option would be tuning your body's sympathetic nervous system through exercise and not being such a pothead.

Exhaling while standing makes orthostatic hypotension worse. A lung full of air resists gravity when you stand. Stupid kids will even press their chest and hold a deep breath, then exhale while standing to induce passing out.

Quote:

Orthostatic hypotension, also known as postural hypotension[1] or shortened to orthostasis and colloquially called head rush, occurs when a person's blood pressure falls when suddenly standing up from a lying or sitting position. It is defined as a fall in systolic blood pressure of at least 20 mm Hg or diastolic blood pressure of at least 10 mm Hg when a person assumes a standing position. It occurs predominantly by delayed constriction of the lower body blood vessels, which is normally required to maintain an adequate blood pressure when changing position to standing.

Coincidentally I had high readings as a teenager until I started smoking weed regularly. I was in the green for years until I had to stop being a pothead.

I wish that was more studied because I know I was stressed out as fuck as a teenager so it wasn't the stress relieving properties of the plant that was doing it (or at least not just that.)

Yeah the only thing that really ever gave me lightheadedness upon standing was weed.  It is a well-known vasodilator, and I'm guessing there are other subtle mechanisms at work too.
