Orthostatic hypotension. It's normal. It's not really a change in blood pressure, just when you stand up your body has to put more effort to counter the effect of gravity to maintain blood flow to the brain.

But if it keeps happening one should consult a doc (maybe). I'm not an officially licensed RN yet, and I would tell someone who asked me for advice the same thing, they teach us to do that just in case you give advice and it turns out negatively for the person asking. So I was just suggesting something. Interesting to read all the responses from people on this subject though.

I remember a few years ago I used to get light headed upon standing up, but it doesn't happen anymore. Actually, I forgot it ever happened at all. I dont know what changed. Weird how your body changes over time.

Generally not in the way you described it, but yes. If I get really pissed off I can feel my heartbeat throughout my body and I'll get a tingly/prickly sensation (a lot like when your leg is asleep or something).

I got so drunk two nights ago that for almost all of yesterday, I thought I had alcohol poisoning. I'll spare you the details but, I had been sitting on my friends toilet, dry heaving and half dead for like 4 hours straight. At one point, I stood straight up and my entire body got that tingly feeling that you get when a part of your body falls asleep and starts to wake up. It was extremely uncomfortable, it hurt, and it felt like my blood was poison. I could feel it reach parts of my body and it'd hurt and feel extremely weird. I was also dehydrated cause I couldn't hold anything down.
Orthostatic hypotension or some other bullshit?

Shouldn't have gone for that second wine cooler.
I think technically you guys are feeling the blood rush out of your head upon standing as opposed to feeling low blood pressure. This could be caused by a number of things including low BP, vasodilation, and I imagine low red blood cell count too.

If you're in tune with your body, you can feel changes in blood pressure, even if you're not in that great of health you should be able to feel the changes.

Thats bullshit. Your blood pressure changes throughout the day. Most people's BP in the morning is 20/15 higher in the morning than in the afternoon. Until you get physical symptoms at the extreme ends, you are completely unaware of your actual BP.
Unless you're actually confirming these changes you sense, how do you even know you're right. Are you checking your BP that often?

That's not really a systemic change in your blood pressure, it's just a adjustment to the distribution of blood to your head. When you stand up, changes are required to valves and arteries in your chest and neck to counteract the effect of gravity to maintain the same blood pressure. Sometimes it takes a few seconds to make these changes and readjust to the body's position.
