San Diego Vacation: Suggestions?

Aging surfer looking for quiet beach break near an affordable, clean motel. Drove an old Econoline van through here in 1970 and am looking for some warmth this winter, 'cuz Oregon's freezing my ass off.
Thought I'd spend a week. Any suggestions for a particular area? Kinda remember catching Stockton Avenue pretty good back then, but I imagine things have changed.

Thanks! You're quite a legend. Can I buy you lunch? Enjoyed your thoughts this morning about slapping kids throwing paper at the teacher. After 43 years of being at the blackboard, I've seen some surely press my nerves.

I appreciate it man but I'm quite far from SD right now. If I ever make it down there I'll let you know though. How long are you there for?

San Diego is super cool. There's a park that I can't remember the name of. Lots of really cool buildings one is a flower museum or whatever. Lots of really neat stuff. Pretty girls everywhere which was a bonus.

I live in LA jolla. it's the cats ass for partying, but recommend pacific beach/hillcrest/gaslamp for partying (if you are gay, hillcrest is great, gaslamp is a bit more straight but more expensive. myself, I'm bi so both work for me.
any of the beaches are cool for surfing, but my favorite beach is 'the strand' at imperial beach.
