Hey there. This is my first attempt at myc. I've read a ton of forum posts and have found this forum to be the most up to date and informative. I recently got a kit that after some research realized that the only useful things in the kit were the tub, thermometer/hygrometer and pre sterilized jars. Lesson learned lol. I'm trying out my first batch with z strain, Cambodian, Amazon, ban hua thanon, b+, and a Brazil strain. I inoculated three pint jars of each strain one week ago. I had them in the clear plastic tub with the foil on tightly for the first five days. Temps were running between 68 and 77F with natural light hitting them during daytime hours. I did some more reading and decided to take the top off of the "incubation chamber" since everyone said to ditch it and just do open air room temp incubation. I have temps in the room running about 68-74 now and took the foil off of one jar of each strain, loosened the foil for better Fae on three jars of each strain and left the foil tight on three jars of each strain to see what happened. Some strains are more prolific than others obviously but it appears that with my current conditions the mycelium is just now starting to show and spread on the jars that are loosely covered with foil more than the tightly covered ones and uncovered ones. All jars are showing some growth nonetheless and it started yesterday and seems to be progressing fairly well. Any suggestions on temps, foil coverage, etc? I have a heating pad under a few towels under the tub so it doesn't drop below 65 at night.

Can't say much, I wouldn't bother with the heating pad

The hygrometer is useless as well and most would agree so are pre sterilized jars. I would bet the tub needs some modifications, definitely lesson learned, DIY next time for much cheaper and better results.

Thanks a bunch. I have all the stuff to do my own jars for the next go. I might try a sgfc or mono tub. Gonna just do the cakes on perlite in the tub I have now for fruiting. Will it be okay to fruit in the clear tub with my light source being indirect sun/room light? Can I turn this clear tub into a sgfc with a few new holes and some polyfill?
