spores all over the place
    #2389130 - 02/29/04 07:36 PM (13 years, 26 days ago)

quik newbie question: I went away on vacation and left my terreriums unattended on auto-pilot for about a week. When I left, I had pinning pf cakes, but nothing big enough to harvest. Today when I returned I opened the tanks to find many shrooms however everything was covered in black dust. Some of the shrooms were pretty big, 5-6 inches tall, with 3-4 inch caps. In one of my tanks EVERYTHING is covered in black dust. I asume this black dust is spores that were dropped by the mature mshrms, yes? - Will this black dust hurt anything, and are my shrooms still good evan though many of them have dropped their spores already? thanks all.

Yes

Will this black dust hurt anything, and are my shrooms still good evan though many of them have dropped their spores already?

They are still fine.

If you let them mature that long to making a huge spory mess it usually lowers the potency a little.  Best time to pick is right as veil is breaking and cap is expanding.

Evolution is Lamarckism in disguise.  Adaptation never creates a new species or trait, but rather the new species/trait always existed within the parent DNA until circumstances allowed it to be activated.  For instance, every wolf has the DNA for poodles, but that DNA would never be revealed without man selectively breeding for it.

You tell him not to bump an old thread but if he posted his own you would say UTFSE and he noted that he already tried to and this is what he came up with....

But yea spores are harmless to eat...
