Can you only fill half of a monotub?

I have a large 108qt tub but only enough bulk to fill the entire tub to 1 inch.
Is it possible for me to fill just one side and leave the other side empty?
Therefore increasing the depth to 2-3 inches Rather than having to buy a 66qt tub or trays.

Would 1:4 filling the entire tub be better than 1:2 half full?
I always liked doing 1:2 never done more than that.

Even with 2 inches of sub remember to mist it more for best results. 1 to 4 works fine. If you don't want much more sub then make 1/2 inch casing

I hate to disagree but an 1.5 inch substrate will perform poorly IME. 1.5 inch is OK for Panaeolus but cubes spawned 1:3 with a depth of 1.5 inch... no. I would invest some money to get a nice substrate depth.
If you do it with 1.5 inch you get fruits of course but it would be be better to make a 3 - 3.5 inch substrate. But if you are too broke to buy another tub, you do not have much opportunities.

Shallow subs do just fine and will still flush several times

That's true... however... I want to see pictures of the 1.5 inch tub grow. Let's see how it'll perform.

2" subs

These are 2 pink buffalo tubs, 2" subs depth 3rd flushes

I've tried 4", 3" and 2" deep subs and the only difference I've experienced is that in the end, you end up throwing away less material when the tubs tams out or just becomes spent

It was a bit thicker after casing of course.

This tray was only an inch thick
Same with this one

OK it might have been bad luck in my grows where I need to go with a 2 inch substrate depth. Had small fruits and poor yield I have to admit that it happened just a few times because of miscalculation but every time the trays performed bad. Maybe the conditions play a role, too. A monotub could act different than the trays in my GH. I don't know.

I had bad experience with small substrate depths... I think that the environment plays a big role. GH or tub seems to differ a lot.

That's a tray with 1.5 - 2 inch substrate depth. Very small fruits.

That tray was a pint of spawn and less than an inch thick. Got over a dry oz first flush from it. Was pretty happy. Judge yield and BE not fruit size.

So what do you think about the relation of the fruiting environment? It looks like it has a big influence. A GH seems like it could not provide the optimal conditions for a tray with a small substrate depth... Otherwise, I cannot explain it to myself.
