Some might want to track their honey usage if comparing recipes. I get a small spoon and put it on my scale and zero it. Now put some honey on the spoon, either poured on or just dip the tip into the honey. How weigh it again, if you need less just scrape a bit off and discard/eat it. Now stir the spoon into the hot liquid mixture until it all comes off the spoon. I have done this with liquid malt extract too, but prefer dry.

Does anyone else have problems with their glad lids popping off too easily after inoculation?  After my first PC cycle the lids on about half do not lock into place.  Maybe I need to tape the edges shut or seal them with Saran Wrap?

Yeah they get pretty loose after a while. I prefer working with them like that. It makes opening them with one hand in the SAB much easier. You just have to be a bit more carful with how you handle them.

Kind of defeats the simplicity of the tek. If they're popping off then something is warped.  If you can't find any that don't do that then use some other similar kind of container.  If it's like Muda said and they're just nice and loose, that's fine.

3 years ago I never imagined that this thread would ever get this far. I had hoped it would survive, but never did I think it would have 211K views or 5K replies. 60 +1's makes it rival some of the pub threads. Staggering. It is the good people of this place that has kept it going. That have helped to ensure that not only will agar be considered the best way to start a grow, but also an easy way to start a grow.

Thanks to this great community. Keep on growing, keep your inoculate clean

It is your tek that got me to where I am, along with your words of encouragement to keep trying grains until I figured out what I was doing wrong! I personally thank you dude! I've stuck around and don't plan on leaving anytime soon....

Most likely the reason I've had bactiera problems. Haven't replaced my containers in quite some time. Tried the zip lock squares had the same issues damn things just fall off.

I've been using some of my containers for almoste 3 years. I use glad and ziploc, bothe round and square. My lids are really loose on some of the older ones but it hasn't been a problem. I haven't seen bacteria on a plate in quit a while.

Fuck it took me forever to get good at sterile work. I grew nothing but bacteria for the first few months. At one point I almoste gave up on agar but Practice makes perfect.

I've learned to avoid "buy more stuff" solutions at all costs especially when it's just an emotional band aid kind of solution..  You just want to feel like you're having a fresh start.  Which is understandable.. But you're lying to yourself with these new containers.  Old nasty piece of shit ones work just as well.

Wow this was easy and cheap! Spent $12 on enough powder to last me a long time and a few bucks on the glad minis. Already had everything else at home being all commonly stocked items for the household. So $15 investment for what I would say will give me many dishes for a long time.

In the PC now and once cooled down I will put some honey LC on it that I made a week ago to test this agar stuff out!

I am guessing one would only use a few drops from LC and MS syringes per dish correct?

Yes, only a few drops are needed.
Never got around to commenting this thread earlier but a big thanks to Pastywhyte for this, helped me a lot when I was getting into agar the first times.
The last few plates of agar I've made were in small 5PP containers, what I usually use is just a little dextrose and agar, or alternatively I cook a big spoonful of malt in some water, strain it away and mix agar into that. Quite simple when you get the hang of it.

I don't know about using fermented beer for that, it could work if there's enough nutrition left that the yeast hasn't eaten and the alcohol is cooked out of it. But if you take the stuff usually used for beer, except the yeast, and add agar, that should work, basically beer is a brewers yeast LC with hops for seasoning.

In Canada the Glad mini rounds are becoming impossible to find. Superstore, etc. have zip-loc ones that work but the lids don't seal nearly as well. I just got an order in on amazon.ca

I've heard bad things about zip lock brand.
I would suggest rubbermaid's red 4oz square containers
They're like 2 bucks for 6 at Walmart.

I couldn't find mini rounds either
