THEY'RE NOT REALLY TREES! And bananas are even considered berries!!
https://alumni.stanford.edu/get/page/magazine/article/?article_id=63171
My whole life is in shambles over this. I mean, I've gone on believing that bananas grew on trees on some tropical island. Where everyone was happy, and they would just spend all day climbing the trees and smiling away.

They look pretty cool, though.

so many bananas...

How do you feel about this? How will it affect your day-to-day life?

Also did you know that all our bananas are grown not from seed but propagative parts thus if a disease such as Panama wilt disease returns it could easily wipe them all out because most are genetically identical. That would be a sad day.

Not all, but most. Potatoes are the same, due to the demand fast food puts on the long russet burbank devoloped so fries would stick out of the MC Ds fry cartons. True of much of our food actually :-( Sad story

You know what else is crazy about bananas? They are more radioactive than most foods
It's also nearly impossible to remove banana trees from the ground. You can remove them, but they will grow back, every time.

i heard that theres a fungus wiping out the bananas, particularly the typical grocery store kind. also i guess the same thing happened a long time ago to the standard banana, killed all of them and it apparently tasted better too. i wonder if they found a disease resistant strain yet

The varieties available are not resistant to all races or pathotypes, each has resistance towards one or 2 races so no real resistance to all. They are being introduced on a larger scale especially in the east such as Japan and China. I do not know about there taste though...

I was nommin some banan (or half of one) for breakfast as I opened the thread. I can't stand them on their own for some reason, but...
Buttered toast, three rounds. Teaspoon of peanut butter (crunchy) spread over each one. Half a banana mashed together with a teaspoon of marmalade devided by three and spread on top of them. Cut into quarters to yum on. The other half of the 'nana is covered with cling film and stored in the fridge for next days breakfast.
A small blob of Devonshire clotted cream on the top of each quarter would be a nice addition. ...goes to Tesco's website to look for clotted cream.
Virtually back from Tesco's. 227g/8oz £1.85~ $2.30 US.
Next time I'm in town...

Banana banana, tomato tomato
If its not a banana "tree", then what do we call the 7-10ft thing growing out of the ground?
Also another weird fact: banana "trees" can survive freezing temps! I know this cause a lot of banana "trees" growing in my area, in the valley of Oregon where the winters sometimes have snow.

Peanut butter and banana sandwiches are the bomb. Especially if there is honey in the sandwich as well. The bread has to be toasted though.

I think we can call it a "tree" in a political sense, but in plant classification based on its cellular structure and pattern, it is not like a tree at all, it's very un-tree like. -similar to how we consider tomatoes to be vegetables (politically) but botanically, tomatoes are berries (fruit)
I might be wrong in some details

That makes sense, especially since your name is "trees". Very fitting.
Also calling something a "tree" for political context sounds really silly

Ooh, bananas. I did know this thing about them, and I'm going to drop some more interesting facts about our daily food; strawberries are not considered berries, it's the small seeds on them that are the actual berries.
Speaking of banana and peanut butter, they are good, but try peanut butter and bilberries (or blueberries if you cant't get bilberries[or jam from either]). What I like to do is banana pancakes, just take bananas, smash them up with a fork, and mix in raw eggs, around one egg to two bananas or more. Fry this on a pan and serve with your favourite jam (bilberry, seriously).
