THEY'RE NOT REALLY TREES! And bananas are even considered berries!!
https://alumni.stanford.edu/get/page/magazine/article/?article_id=63171
My whole life is in shambles over this. I mean, I've gone on believing that bananas grew on trees on some tropical island. Where everyone was happy, and they would just spend all day climbing the trees and smiling away.

They look pretty cool, though.

so many bananas...

How do you feel about this? How will it affect your day-to-day life?

Also did you know that all our bananas are grown not from seed but propagative parts thus if a disease such as Panama wilt disease returns it could easily wipe them all out because most are genetically identical. That would be a sad day.

Not all, but most. Potatoes are the same, due to the demand fast food puts on the long russet burbank devoloped so fries would stick out of the MC Ds fry cartons. True of much of our food actually :-( Sad story

You know what else is crazy about bananas? They are more radioactive than most foods
It's also nearly impossible to remove banana trees from the ground. You can remove them, but they will grow back, every time.

i heard that theres a fungus wiping out the bananas, particularly the typical grocery store kind. also i guess the same thing happened a long time ago to the standard banana, killed all of them and it apparently tasted better too. i wonder if they found a disease resistant strain yet

There are one or two resistant strains and the fungus is Fusarium oxysporym.

The varieties available are not resistant to all races or pathotypes, each has resistance towards one or 2 races so no real resistance to all. They are being introduced on a larger scale especially in the east such as Japan and China. I do not know about there taste though...

I was nommin some banan (or half of one) for breakfast as I opened the thread. I can't stand them on their own for some reason, but...
Buttered toast, three rounds. Teaspoon of peanut butter (crunchy) spread over each one. Half a banana mashed together with a teaspoon of marmalade devided by three and spread on top of them. Cut into quarters to yum on. The other half of the 'nana is covered with cling film and stored in the fridge for next days breakfast.
A small blob of Devonshire clotted cream on the top of each quarter would be a nice addition. ...goes to Tesco's website to look for clotted cream.
Virtually back from Tesco's. 227g/8oz £1.85~ $2.30 US.
Next time I'm in town...
