Weird it didn't send the rest of the post!
Yes the first barrel just feeds steam to the others. I plan on adding about 3 more. The btu's converted to kw equal something like 75kw so it should heat up very quickly. To be honest this is not the most efficient design, propane ain't cheap. But it's what I had available to me at the moment. Thank god for jb weld and shark bite fittings lol

nutty as a jar of planters my man We've gotten code called on us a few times, but it's all been resolved. Everything we do attracts a lot of attention, but I've found inviting people over, showing them around, and sending them home with a box of shrooms makes a good neighbor a great one.

Are they placed in serie? and is there any piping inside the barrels? I wonder how these will work, especially if added 3 more in the same way. Might need a lot of pressure or tweaking I guess, placing them parrallel might be easier. Not meant to be negative, hope they work great!

Well, just completed the first run, and there are definitely some things I'm going to change. Temp stability and functionality are all looking great, but you are right about the pressure issue since I have them in series. I'm going to cap off where they are connected and re run an individual line to each boiler from one main boiler line. Should dramatically help with steam pressure and would allow me to at least run one or two more off one boiler.
I'd like to switch it to a 100 gal barrel for my boiler, but I can't source them locally. I had to top off the barrel once, but temps were still stable. Looks like I can get 40 bags/barrel. Core temp of 212 reached after about 3-4 hours. wish I knew how to post vids on here, this thing seriously throws some steam!

Congrats on the first run! Did the bags seel up Ok? Ever find an answer to the bag vacuum question? Can you run a float valve or Solenoid or both to regulate the water level?

Thanks! The bags sealed perfectly! Actually better than they do in my 75x's. There seems to be a lot debate over it. I mean the dude from WTF lets them completely cool outside and just throws them on the floor of his lab. Go figure. I did seal my grain bags before hand though, I'm not playing around with those. Did about 100lbs of grain on this run. I could do the float valve..probably will. But I only had to fill it once to top it off. It still has a full 1/3 of water left after the run so I bet I wouldnt even need to top it off. I just got nervous when I was packing up for market this morning, so I filled it just to make sure it didn't run dry since I wasn't there to watch it.

How much water (liters) did you put in your ''boiler'' barrel? And how long did it take for it to heat to boiling temperature? Also how much propane did you use in one run?

idk about how many liters, but it's about 3/4 of the way full at the start. so roughly about 40 gallons. this run it used about 27lbs of propane, but keep in mind I had to keep it at full blast because of the pressure issues running them in series. I fixed the piping today that should solve that problem, so I should be avle to use much less on this run. It took about 3 hours to get to core temp, but again it may be different this time around with the new piping. doing a run tonight and I will report back on the results. Also just insulated the pipe and barrels so that should help immensely. Pics to come shortly.Quote:

Yeah idk, that dude just rubs me the wrong way. Struck up a conversation with him once to which he proceeded to attempt to bill me for. I'm so used to getting and giving advice in this place that I assume everyone is as open and friendly as I try to be, but that is not the case apparently!

i never had great luck running 2 barrels off one steamer but I did not try fiddling with it much once it was clear they weren't getting equally hot. hope you can get it to work, series might be the way to go.
the WTF guy , well i just don't understand his whole operation but I think he gets pretty crazy prices up there. so he can afford to be a bit less efficient and still be profitable.

I mean I guess it's easy to judge from a distance. Definitely didn't get a good impression, but hey here we all are talking about him! Must be doing something half right.

I'm hoping rerouting the pipe will help feed the second barrel a little quicker. Also my burner is a f#$kin' monster so getting them up to temp hasn't been an issue, it's getting them up to temp at the same time.Did you have the same issue? First barrel was easily up to temp a few hours before the second.
