I know almost nothing about him besides the inspirational quotes people post on social media. I'll do a little more research on him

Pretentious pedophilic twat that has drunk a little bit too much coolaid. From what I've read he's all about money, power and control. Just another Mother Theresa, Ghandi, Pope XVwhatever... etc.
The masses only support him because they cling onto religion and spiritualism to a fault.

I was gonna say something similar..I don't look up to people like this just because of their status, they're often not what they're made out to be. I was gonna mention Mother Theresa also.

If he was a true Buddhist he wouldn't have fled Tibet when the Chinese invaded.

Mother Theresa was the worst, she worshipped and relished abject poverty. She took "blessed are the poor" too literally.

STALai Lama
He's a pretty regular dude who was born into a pretty eccentric position. He generally preaches tolerance and good will, but has made some decisions that certain Tibetan Buddhist sects consider oppressive.
Think of him as kind of an interesting modern day case study. There are a few other examples of the effect of the reborn master teachings, but he happens to be the most iconic, likely attributing to the level of his position.
Do not hold personal belief in the concept or view him as holy, but it is an interesting phenomenon to see play out in modern society.

I've heard some backwards views from him, and I don't buy that he is a reincarnation or any different from any other human, but I think largely he's a good guy and a positive figure in the world.

I remember this story when it happened, LOL!
Nov. 13, 1987 1:54 PM ET LONDON (AP) _ A Chinese soldier in Tibet who tried to tear off a British woman's ''Sergeant Bilko'' T-shirt has become the first known case of someone mistaking Phil Silvers for the Dalai Lama. As Kris Tait, 25, described the scene to British newspapers, a large crowd of Tibetans apparently agreed with him about a likeness between the late American comedian and the Tibet's exiled god-king.. Miss Tait said she was on vacation in the town of Gyangste when a soldier on a bicycle noticed the shirt with the likeness of the character Silvers played in the 1950s television series, the Guardian reported Friday. She said he accosted her and tried to rip off the T-shirt, then a crowd of Tibetans gathered, pointing at the portrait and chanting ''Dalai Lama 3/8'' The tourist, from Seaton in southwest England, said she wrenched free, crossed her arms over her chest and fled to find a change of clothes. Another newspaper, Today, quoted her as saying: ''I really thought the soldier was going to hurt me or lock me up. It was terrifying.'' None of the reports explained whether the incident occurred during recent anti-Chinese riots in Tibet. Silvers was bald and the Dalai Lama has his head shaven. Ugyan Norbu, secretary of the Tibetan Society in London, said Tibetans would not have seen the TV show and would not know what the comedian looked like, the Guardian reported. Bilko has become a cult figure in Britain because of late-night reruns of the American series by the British Broadcasting Corp. Miss Tait, an avid fan, told the Guardian: ''Looking back on it, I suppose he does look a bit like the Dalai Lama.''

he's awesome! His books are actually pretty enlightening discourses on Buddhism. He digs into the concepts very satisfactorily, definitely not a joke and still fighting for the full emancipation of Tibet : )

Sacred / holy are terms which cary a lot of baggage, but in the purest sense he is a spiritual power house. I believe he is one of the people on this planet who is holding the psychic mainframe of humanity in tact.

That sums it up for me too. The way the world works, every person represents a whole group of people all over the world whom they are connected with by their nature.
The Dalai Lama is part of a spiritual network.
If you're going to call people "holy/sacred" then he's likely making the short list because of his high level of development.
Theres people known and unknown, mostly unknown, who keep the world going. You could be one. You could be the hundredth monkey or the butterfly of a world changing effect. You don't have to be in an incrowd for it, know people, just being you is enough.

He's a great man, I can't say he's holy though, I would be lying.
I don't think any "holy men" are actually holy, more like the holy men are really good examples to follow in life.

I like him a lot and agree with Chakra Shock's comment
A few years back I went to a week long talk he gave in NYC and loved it
He seems like a very genuine and kind/spiritual being to me.
I'm interested if you have had any interesting experiences with him in Spirit, Asante
