Small, smell proof weed grow tent?
#23887359 - 12/02/16 12:00 PM (7 years, 1 month ago) |

Hello everyone.
I tried to cultivate MMJ a few months back, and less than a month into veg, my plants made the whole house smell like a weed farm. I have a family, and live in an illegal state... can't be stinking up the neighborhood.
I recently got approval from my wife to try again, only on the merit that I can contain the smell. I know there are ways. I'm not too handy with tools and stuff, doubt I could drill holes in my ceiling for filters etc.
Are there grow tents to be bought ready to go? Any help would be much appreciated. Budget would ideally be 500 or less.
Possible?
Thanks for any help everyone.

There are basically no smell proof tents since you need air circulation for plants to thrive, this means moving that smelly air out of the tent. You have to filter the air through activated carbon. This means your filter needs to be big enough to absorb the smells, and the fan sucking the air through the filter effective enough to cause negative pressure inside the tent, thus preventing smell from leaking.

How does one go about making that happen? I'm somewhat illiterate I guess. There's no "stand alone" filters hat go inside the box or something? The only way is to cut into the walls of my home?

Go to any indoor garden website. Look up active carbon filter as well as can fan, they are often sold as a combo. Set can fan on top of filter sucking air through carbon filter, turn on. Clean prefilter on carbon filter every harvest. If just a small grow it should last at least a year. That's the quick, ghetto way. Alternatively you could pull the air through the filter and vent either outside or to another room. There is a ton of information on the webz regarding this and it is rather simple. Good luck Dick

Exactly like that. You may want to up it if you can afford it. Especially in banned states. It's better than the felony, trust me. But yes, I'd set the filter on a milk crate if possible, can fan blowing upwards and let her rip. If the fan is to much for the tent, duct it out the top of the tent, the negative pressure will not only aid in smell, but tends to keep some of the little nasties at bay as well. Man I miss my growing days Dick

Funny how it has to be the wife with the sound mind.
I remember i was allowed to grow in a closet many many years back. I had an exhaust fan into thw attic but no carbon scrubber. Really sucked and i eventually gave up.
I recommend a small cabinet grow. If you have money you can easily build one. Goodluck man.

You can never keep women happy. Thats a contradiction. Its just impossible to keep them happy. Thus, you will never have a happy life.

Oma gel, lol. Gel and ozone are not going to come close to cutting Loud headies funk.
Get a tent and running a good fan such as vortex and suck through a carbon scrubber. They make all sorts of special tools for the trade. The negative pressure in the tent keeps smells in when the tent is closed. It can also suck in the walls of the tent.
What sort of light?
You can always get a higher rating fan and scrubber with a variable speed controller. Turning the fan down to maintaine smells and temp. When you open the tent for mantience, turn the fan & scrubber up for awhile to clean the air.

Negative air pressure.
You want your fan/can filter to suck air faster than it can get in the tent. Get an oversized fan/can and play with the zippers until smell and temps are good.

Is the growery still a thing??? I was into horticulture before mycology as I grew up around gardens. I really miss it. Look into micro rhizomes and learn a good nutrient schedule, it's gotten so it almost does its self for beginners. I would recommend a soilless medium such as promix to start. Hydroponics are a lot of gear and a bigger price tag to start. I'm here to help I can live vicariously through you. Do you have a source for some decent clones? Dick

Promix is soil. Mostly a peat based substrate. There are many good soil recipes. I recommend 5% biochar added and 20% compost.
Here is a soil recipe I've worked out:
3.1 gallon x 9 pots = 27.9 gallons .88 gallon x 20 = 17.6 gallons Total = 45.5 gallons 7.08 cubic feet
20% 50/50 compost/worm, 1.416 Cubic feet, 9.1 Gallons 28% Vermiculite, 2 Cubic feet, 12.74 Gallons 42% Peat Moss, 3 Cubic feet, 19.11 Gallons 5% Biochar, .354 Cubic feet, 2.275 Gallons 5% Coco Coir, .354 Cubic feet, 2.275 Gallons

1 tablespoon 9% Nitrogen guano will raise 1 gallon of soil exactly 10ppm. 20% compost equals about 23 or so ppm of the goodies, depending on compost.
It's all guesstimate stuff but it can be very wise to know quantities of additives.
Lot's of people eye ball stuff but I like to really be accurate. Fuck bottle nut's and all that. Directions are a science.

Promix is not soil. It is a substrate by definition.
I will not argue this, but I will listen to what you say. Dick

I'm seriously not being rude.... to plant geeks like me....
soil - (i) The unconsolidated mineral or organic material on the immediate surface of the Earth that serves as a natural medium for the growth of land plants. (ii) The unconsolidated mineral or organic matter on the surface of the Earth that has been subjected to and shows effects of genetic and environmental factors of: climate (including water and temperature effects), and macro- and microorganisms, conditioned by relief, acting on parent material over a period of time. A product-soil differs from the material from which it is derived in many physical, chemical, biological, and morphological properties and characteristics.

Promix is peat moss. Peat moss is used to make soil. Add some rock dust and it's soil. As well as other admendments. Coco coir is considered soilless due to how it's maintained.

As I said, I will not argue, but I will listen. Please note that "soil" as defined is a natural substance found at the exact point where the earth's crust meets air. Also note in definition the word "natural". It's like people who call soil dirt, its nomenclature. In most indoor garden applications both for nutrient and endo/ecto microrhizal purposes promix is considered "soilless" gardening. If you go to buy "potting soil" you will generally get a product with natural humic properties where as promix requires humates and fulvates. They do add the micros and endo/ectos to some of their products now. However, it is still not "alive" as a scoop of black dirt from a flood plain would be. If that makes sense to you..... I am speaking purely from a nutrient and microbial standpoint, soil from the forest = alive pro mix = addies needed to help break down nutes to create more availability to root systems. Have a good day
